The Aliquippa Volunteer Infantry was an American army unit that served in the Union army during the American Civil War. The unit was organized on December 12, 1861, at Ford's Theatre in Baltimore, Maryland. The regiment soon relocated to Philadelphia and joined the 23rd Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment. On February 22 1863, the Aliquippa Volunteers were mustered into service as a part of General Ulysses S. Grant's Army of the Potomac. After being stationed in Virginia and North Carolina for several months, they invaded Kentucky and Tennessee on July 15, 1863. As part of General Robert E. Lee's Confederate Army of Northern Virginia he defended Louisville against Union forces under George Buell and William Tatham Cummings GCB (17 June 1813 – 25 August 1865). On November 1 1865, General Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House in Virginia after a three-year long war with over 600 killed, wounded or missing while fighting for hisorthern side versus 620 dead Yankees lost by General Ulysses S. Grant

The division was activated on December 8th 1915 and deployed to Europe in early 1916. The division fought in France and Belgium during the war before being sent back to America in September 1917. On November 15th 1917, the division assaulted enemy lines at Belleau Wood, becoming one of only two US divisions to do so. After fighting through the winter and into 1918, the 1st Infantry Division spearheaded Allied forces as they advanced into Central Europe and liberated Brussels from German occupation on April 29th 1918. In total, the division earned three Distinguished Unit Citations (DUC) during World War I- two for actions in France and one for action at Belleau Woods. The 1st Infantry Division was disbanded following the war but its legacy lives on as part of today’s Army National Guard.

Aliquippa is a town in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,644 at the 2010 census. It lies at the intersection of U.S. Route 23 and Penn State Route 242. The first settler in Aliquippa was John Potter who arrived on July 5, 1784 from Huntingdon Township, Pennsylvania with his family and acreage. Potter moved to what is now Aliquippa from Huntingdon Township on October 15, 1784 because of the lack of water available for farming there. He named his new land "Pottersville" after himself and his brother-in-law William Potts (1748–1829). The first post office in Aliquippa was established in 1824 by Captain George Washington Peck and opened on December 12th; it closed due to insufficient mail volume in those days. On November 6, 1827, Alfred Dickson patented the lands which would become Aliquippa Township; he named it after General Anthony Wayne's forces that had fought against Native Americans at Monongahela River near Pittsburgh during the American Revolutionary War known as the Battle of Gettysburg. General Wayne's forces were later renamed "Aliquippa Brigade" due to its participation in this battle some 20 years later when they took part again along with other brigades under General John Forbes during Forbes' invasion of eastern North America known as The Indian Wars or The Shawnee War which lasted until 1794 when all hostilities ended peaceably between Great Britain and France following their victory over Native Americans at Yorktown Heights in Virginia Beach on October 14th., alsoknown as Appomattox Court House event or Third Continental Congress meeting where George Washington resigned as president effective November 15th., ending British rule over North America
Aliquippa was founded in 1795 by John Allegheny. It is the oldest town in Pennsylvania and the second-oldest town in the United States. The population of Aliquippa was 9,507 at the 2010 census.
