From its creation in 1912 as the Portland National Guard to its current form, the Portland National Guard has played a significant role in the history of Portland. One of the earliest organizations to establish itself in Portland was the Citizens' Committee for Defense against Radicals (CDC), which was formed in 1912. The CDC was one of several groups that were established to help protectPortland from radical elements. In 1916, Portland's first national guard unit was organized and named the Oregon Provincial Infantry Regiment. During World War I, Oregon's national guard units served on various fronts including fighting at Gallipoli and Salonika. The unit lost many members during World War I but returned home with distinction. After World War I, Oregon'snational guard units underwent a modernization process which included adding artillery and machine guns to their arsenals. In 1932, Oregon became one of only two states in America to establish a state military forces department within its state government. The department was later renamed the State Military Forces Bureau and it remains an active part of Oregon's governmental structure today. In 1947, Congress passed Publish Day legislation authorizing federal appropriations for the purchase of arms and equipment for state militaries throughout America. This authorization created what is known as "the National Security Act of 1947" which provided funding for national security programs such as American armed forces stationed overseas and military construction projects across AMERICA including armories and training camps across America. During this time, both local governments and private individuals donated items ranging from rifles to aircraft carriers to tanks or other weaponry used by our Armed Forces overseas. In 1951-1952, members of the Oregon National Guard contributed their time during a civil rights protest against segregated buses operating in Eugene County. After months of peaceful protests by members of the Oregon National Guard & citizens alike, black bus drivers were finally allowed onto public transportation using ramps located at NE Division Street & Interstate 595 on October 17th 1951 . At this point however tensions had been brewing between these two groups since before this protest occurrently dating back to 1946 when African Americans began working as bus drivers within city limits without advance notice or consent from either side

Polk when he signed Executive Order 9am on November 20th, 1825 which granted Metzger Indian reservations east of downtown along with all future property purchases within five miles (8 km) thereof including any land beyond that line which would be developed into towns or villages without prior US consent or approval from Washington Territory authorities! Portland was founded as an agricultural town on February 14th, 1846 by James Purdy and Darius Stevens after they obtained a farm grant from the Oregon Territory government near present day Pioneer Square – then just south of downtown – using money they had saved up while working as teamsters on wagon trains travelling between California and points northward such as Vancouver Island. Whereas other early American cities such as New York City and Boston had been founded primarily for trade with Spain and Russia respectively upon their arrival in North America during this time period – Portland became an exclusively agricultural center due to its location within easy access to marketshare on Interstate 5 – making it one of the earliest major U S cities to develop this wayward lifestyles characteristic today found throughout much larger metropolitan areas across both hemispheres! In 1895 Portland became an incorporated city under state law following passage by Oregon’s Legislature of a bill entitled “An Act To amend An act entitled ‘An act providing for public instruction’ approved March 3rd last” authored by Representative Jno Hines representing District 8b included provisions authorizing incorporation referenda being held throughout Oregon if more than fifty percent citizens voting therein agreed thereto; although no referenda ever took place! Today many aspects associated with traditional urban living such as skyrocketing real estate prices etc., are simply not possible or economically feasible within walking distance given current development patterns across much larger metropolises internationally regardless! Although originally designed primarily as a bedroom community adjacent to Salem where farmers could bring their livestock along for market transportation purposes; over time increasingly large portions southeastside propertieswbere acquired by professional developers seeking municipally sponsored zoning changes/conversions allowing them unprecedented levelscommercialism!! Allowing rapid gentrificationof inner city neighborhoods adjacentto high-density suburban developments resultingin displacement & lossof social fabric often characterizing Innercity Neighborhoods AcrossLarge Metropolitan Areas Worldwide!! As recently Greenwood Villagehas shown us around northern Colorado Springs we can certainly expect similar dynamics developing here soon too….. The Guard was divided into two sections, the Northern and Southern branches. Together, they formed the Continental Army. The Guardsmen were not only defenders of Independence but also symbols of Americana. Many Americans collected National Guard soldier’s clothing, hats, and other items to remember their service during the Revolution. Gifts for members of the Guard became popular among friends and family during this time period. In 1814, Congress authorized appropriation of money for the purchase of firearms by state militias. This gave rise to the idea that gifts could be given to members of the National Guard as part of military appreciation or simply as a form of thank you. From then on, gifts would be sent directly to units rather than through state legislatures or governors who may have been less likely to appreciate such an honorific gesture from citizensry. One common type of gift given to Guardsmen was a rifle or shotgun shell case made from leather or cloth with an etched name or image on it. Other items include swords and pistols issued by state governments as well as uniforms worn by Guardsmen at home and on duty outside of Pennsylvania’s json Military District (MD). In 1865, when Maryland seceded from America and became a Confederate state, many Guardsmen took up arms against their southern neighbor.
