The Hermiston Coffee Company was founded in 1907 by Mr. and Mrs. John Boice with a small processing plant on the banks of the Willamette River. The company grew rapidly, producing high-quality coffee beans for local consumption and exporting to other states in the Northwest. In 1948, the company merged with another Oregon coffee company, The Portland Coffee Company, creating what is now known as Harry's Coffee & Cafe.
Hermiston is a small town in Oregon, United States. The population was 1,362 at the 2010 census. It is part of Multnomah County. The community was founded on November 20, 1892 by A.L. Hermiston and Wm. Halsey as a post office called Hermiston (later renamed Hermiston). The name comes from the Greek word hermeneuticum meaning "the art of taking things for granted." In 1903, the community bought land east of the tracks to form a new settlement which became known as Hermiston Heights. In 1915, the town moved westward on a Donation Land Claim from Baker City to take advantage of its more eastern location and larger water supply. In 1922, the town installed electric lights and streetlights and built a fire station that served until 1957. In 1970, when Multnomah County was created, Hermiston became one of its original municipalities. The economy in Hermiston is based principally on agriculture with some light manufacturing activity; however, recent years have seen an increase in tourism as well as development along Interstate 5 inside and outside of the city limits

Hermiston is a small town in the U.S. state of Oregon, located about 20 miles north-northwest of The Dalles. According to the 2010 census, the population was 1,836. Hermiston is home to two colleges: Pacific University and Northwest Christian College. The community was founded in 1885 by Methodist Episcopal missionaries as a stop on their journey from Portland tothe interior of Oregon. The first permanent settler in Hermiston was Fenton Hargrave, who arrived in 1887. Hargrave's farm became the nucleus for what would become Hermiston proper, which began growing rapidly after he opened his grocery store there in 1893. By 1907, there were twelve businesses operating in Hermiston; by 1912, there were twenty-four businesses and more than one hundred residents. In 1916, Pacific University was established adjacent to Hermiston by Reverend Atherton Witherspoon and Drs James Mclntyre and John Woolridge under the name "Pacific Agricultural College". In 1924, it merged with Northwest Christian College (now known as Northwest Nazarene University) to form what is now Pacific University System. After World War II ended, many blue-collar jobs went away due to automation; however, some old white-collar jobs such as printing press production continued until they too were lost during the late 1990s recession when technology changed so quickly that many jobs could be automated without losing any value or employees—a trend that continues today across most industries). However some new high tech positions have sprung up such as computer graphics design software development or artificial intelligence development (for example at Google). This growth has created challenges for local schools like Pacific University which are trying hard to keep up with changing needs while also providing affordable education for students from low income families and other underserved groups who have not traditionally had access to quality education opportunities outside of school."
The Hermiston area was first settled in the 1850s, when families from New Zealand and Australia came to the area. The original goldmining operation in Hermiston began in 1858, and continued until 1861. In 1865, a mill was built at Hermiston, which became an important center for flour and other agricultural products. The area also became known for its cheese production beginning in the 1870s.
