The Woodward Army Base was first established in 1907, and it has been an important military installation throughout its history. The base has played a significant role in the development of the United States military, and it is also home to units of the Army National Guard and the Air Force Reserve.
Woodward is a small town in central Oklahoma, located about 20 miles east of McAlester. It was founded in 1907 by Simeon Woodward and his wife Anna. The original store was built on the corner of First Street and Elm Street. In 1911, the Woodward family moved to their present location on Fourth Street. The town had a population of just over 100 people when it became part of the Union County seat in 1912. The first school in Woodward was built on the corner of Third and Elm Streets in 1909. A new school building was constructed on Fourth Street in 1912, which served as the town's first municipally-operated educational institution. The Woodward School District offered primary, middle, and high school education until 1971 when it merged with McAlester's district to form McAlester-Woodward Unified School District. In 1929, Simeon Woodward donated land for a football stadium that would become home to the McIntosh High School Bulldogs football team. The stadium would be used for both community events and official games between McAlester and Union County schools until it was destroyed by fire in 1951. A new football stadium was built on the same site in 1973 which served as home to the McIntosh Falcons football team until they disbanded in 2006. The current courthouse opened its doors to business operations on October 1, 1907, when Judge Simeon Woodward paid $3 cash for use of an old jailbuilding located one block west of his store at Seventh Avenue and Broadway Boulevard (now Second Avenue). At that time, only white men were allowed to vote within Union County; therefore Judge Woodward needed someone who could sign Official Certificates allowing them into voting membership - he did this himself! On November 5th 1907 local residents voted 3-2 against annexation by Guthrie because they felt that Gorman should have been given priority for incorporation! In 1908 Judge Simeon Woodworth donated land north of town along Second Avenue (now US 287) for what would become known as “The Woods” annexation area – now known as Indianola – housing several businesses including a bank and two lumber mills before becoming an incorporated village! In 1915 Judge Simeon Woodworth donated land east of town along First Avenue (now US 287) for what would become known as “The Meadows” annexation area – now known as Lawton –housing several businesses including four grocery stores before becoming an incorporated village! Finally, on November 10th 1922 voters approved annexation by McAlester after rejecting offers from Guthrie & Rice! Aftermaths saw many changes take place due largely to World War II: during World War II much munitions production took place northeast of town near Walters Lake while also many homes were destroyed or taken over by military officials; finally post-wargregation began with all black citizens being integrated into white areas starting around 1950 while still maintaining their own government structures primarily through Village Councils

One of the most popular attractions in town is Woodward Park which is home to a large Children’s Museum, several playgrounds/ parks, a well-known movie theater (the old Majestic), shopping malls (a few blocks north of downtown) and more. The park is open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend with free admission for children 8 years old or younger. There are also several baseball diamonds within walking distance of downtown as well as soccer fields and basketball courts nearby for residents and visitors to use during summertime activities like playing football orbasketball etc...
