In 1946, the city of OKC received another warship when they donatedUSS Nevada (BB-48). This vessel served as a patrolboat until it was sold at public auction on February 15th, 1948 and resold to the United States Marine Corps under the name MV San Diego (LPD-9). It later served as part of Marine detachments stationed throughout Japan during their occupation period from 1945 through 1951 inclusive. On December 8th, 1961, USS Enterprise (CVN 69) arrived at Naval Station Bremerton after being donations by Mayor George Wickersham and Rear Admiral Harry S. Truman along with other naval ships that were taken apart for scrap metal purposes within Tacoma Shipyards near Seattle Washington State USA. The Enterprise remained moored at Bremerton for three years before she finally departed for her final destination - Yokosuka Bay in Japan where she would serve as an auxiliary cruiser until her decommissioning on September 1st 1973. This donation is significant because it marked not only the first time an American warship had been deployed to Japan since WW2 but also marking one of only two occasions when a US warship has been permanently moored there since Pearl Harbor Day 1945!
