Twinsburg is an unincorporated community in Fayette County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,083 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Twinsburg was Nicholas Decker who arrived there in 1814. A post office called "Derek" was established in 1827, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1912. The community took its name from two brothers—Daniel and John Derek—who owned a sawmill and gristmill on the banks of the Monongahela River. The original town site lay within what is now known as North Twinburg Township. In 1848, a group of men from Shelbyville bought all of what would become South Twinburg Township from the Derek brothers for $5 per acre (or $10 per square mile). This made Twinsburg one of the largest townships in Ohio. By 1860, it had a population of 2,500 people. A railway line been built through Twinsburg by Cleveland & Erie Railway between Dayton and Cleveland ran through the town center; however, this railroad company ceased operations before it could be completed and no buildings were erected along its tracks. With few other options available to residents during this time period, many individuals began to abandon their homes because they could not afford to buy them back or lease them out In 1865-1866 two groups of farmers moved into Twinsburgh; these settlers were Isaac Kapp and George Stephenson They started a small gristmill on Church Street which continued operating until 1898 when it burned down also another mill that did pretty well but went out due to lack of waterpower later on another mill closed too having nothing whatsoever to do with agriculture either again after years being abandoned finally somebody started driving around looking for something to do so someone decided building an agricultural school actually which led eventually somebody found some land behind White Settlement Chapel getting interested so they built that too originally there wasn't anything else wanted except farming people just got interested eventually

It was named for their twin daughters Rebecca and Elizabeth Crandall. Twinsburg became a city in 1903. The townsite of Twinsburg was surveyed by David Wilkinson on November 15, 1824, and laid out as a village by John A. Richards on December 12 of the same year. Richards had been born in Scotland but came to America with his father in 1796. At first he operated a gristmill near the present day intersection of State Road 513 and Elm Street; later he began to build stores and homes there. On July 10, 1830, Richards sold land east of Elm Street to Amos Eaton for $1 per acre (or $10 per square mile). He also donated four acres (2 ha) north of State Road 513 to the town for use as a public park
