Troy, Ohio is a city in the northwestern part of the United States. The population was 11,898 at the 2010 census. It is named after General Andrew Troy and his troops who fought in the American Revolution. Today, Troy is a medium-sized town with a population of around 25,000 people. The area that now includes Troy was first settled by Native Americans in the 17th century. In 1813, General Andrew Troy and his troops fought in the Battle of Fallen Timbers near present day Troy on July 4th during the American Revolution. The battle resulted in victory for America and ended British control over what is now Ohio. However, many Native Americans died as a result of this battle including Chief Tecumseh's brother-in-law DeWitt Clinton who was scalped alive by British forces when he tried to flee from Battle Creek Heights after losing an upcoming war against them. In 1817, US President James Kanesborough appointed Colonel John Denny to survey and plat out land for settlement in what would become Troy Township. On October 25th of that year, Denny submitted his plat to township officials with the following description: "The village or town situated on this plat being about six miles square containing within its limits five large lots which are bounded by State line upon one side, Centerline Road on another side immediately south of said road; east and west Lines running thence northwardly parallel to Centre Line." This marked not only the beginning of civilization in what would become Troy but also allowed for growth because it gave settlers access to open land without fear of retribution from nearby Native nations should they conflict with white settlers too closely (later known as Indian Wars). In 1836, following annexation by Indiana Territory, $4 thousand dollars were appropriated from state coffers to purchase 640 acres (2 hectares) surrounding present day downtown from John Pritchard for $6 per acre ($40 per hectare). This donation became known as Pritchardville which served as inspiration for future development in downtown Toledo and other areas adjacent thereto such as Goodyear Heights (nowadays Holmesburg), Residential Streets northwest of Centerline Road (now Whitehall Avenue), Commercial Streets northeast of Centerline Road (now Third Street), Evergreen Parkway east off Third Street into central Toledo proper between Fairview Avenue on one side and Veterans Memorial Hospital opposite on the other side – all still extant today! Downtown Toledo began growing rapidly due largely to two factors:Firstly, railroad transportation finally arrived here thanks to German entrepreneur George Stephenson’s construction company which built both local lines starting service here on May 3rd 1848 passenger trains called “Northern Belle” stopping at Station Square just northwest corner lot along First Ward line then continuing southeast along Second Ward line past Second National Bank building before terminating at Euclid Avenue just southwesterly corner lot along Third Ward line where passengers disembarked onto cars waiting outside until their next stop Chicago & Northwestern Railway Company started services operated under name “Stations West” running northeasterly through Union Terminal Depot formerly home of Grand Central Depot before making their way down Market Street patrolled by policemen responsible for enforcement activities until December 15th 1893 when engine house caught fire resulting in lossy damage thereby causing abandonment allowing business districts like Fourth Ward west across First National Bank Building property now occupied by Downtown Medical Services building erected thereon during 1990s renaissance period Also note current location changed back from Norris Ave NW corner University Place SE corner School District #1 boundaries updated very late last decade after more than 20 years located downhill trending away from original site
