Sidney is a town in Scioto County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,615 at the 2010 census. Sidney has a long and colorful history that can be traced back to the early 1800s. The first settler in Sidney was John Wilkinson, who arrived in 1795. He built a cabin on the banks of the Scioto River. In 1814, Wilkinson married Deborah Silliman and they moved to Sidney. There were many other settlers in Sidney during its early years because it was an agricultural community with few industry options. However, as Sidney grew more populous and started developing some industrial capabilities, it attracted people from all over for jobs opportunities. By 1920, Sidney had become an important cultural center for the region due to its large population of Polish-American workers and their families. In 1922, local resident John Fenton founded the city hall which still stands today within downtown Sidney. Fenton wanted to promote civic engagement within his small town and he decided to create a government that would be independent from county government control but coexist peacefully with it under one roof. This idea became reality when Fenton merged with neighboring townships into Scioto County in 1925 so that there could be one governing body for all of them – something that continues to this day! In 1930, Gordon Wrenn took office as Mayor of Sidney after winning election on a platform of creating better economic opportunities for his citizens by creating new businesses and increasing job availability in the area through investment programs called "The Plan." At first glance, Wrenn's program may seem like nothing more than tinkering aroundthe edges - but look closer and you'll see how it helped set off a domino effect throughout much of central Ohio that has kept Sidonia afloat ever since! Today Sidonia is known as one of America's most diverse communities due to its wide range of cultures including both American Indian heritage as well as European (mostly Polish) descent.
