The Coast Guard has been in business in Parma since 1795. The first station was set up on the Richardson River, and by 1827 there were five stations along the Ohio coast. In 1870, the Coast Guard Station at Portsmouth was established and became the largest station on the east coast of America. In 1917, the Coast Guard Station at Lucasport was activated to help with World War I efforts. In 1952, a new station, Building 8 (later renamedqusit) was built on Muskegon Heights overlooking Lake Erie. The purpose of Building 8 was to provide shelter for crewmembers of Navy ships while they were waiting to load or unload cargo at Muskegon Harbor. The Coast Guard also used Building 8 as an observation post during operations against submarines off Muskegon Heights during World War II. Today, the Coast Guard Station in Parma offers a wide variety of services including search and rescue; coastal defense; marine law enforcement; disaster relief; public safety; icebreaking; and recreational boating. Services are provided throughout Greater Cleveland and Parma County communities including Ashtabula, Bound Brook, Danbury, Eastlake Commerce Township (formerly part of Cleveland), Euclid Heights ( formerly part of Cleveland), Farmington Hills (formerly part of Detroit), Independence Township (formerly part of Detroit), Kenmore Square ( formerly part of Cleveland), Lakewood Village/Northeast Side (formerly part of Cleveland), Mayfield Heights/South Side (formerly part of Cleveland), Orchard Park/Northwest Side (formerly part as Cleveland City Limits) , Quicken Loans Arena/Cleveland Cavaliers arena complex(Now known as Quicken Loans Stadium) , Strongsville-Southgate area north side near Tesla Factory(Now known as Rosslyn industrial park))and White Marsh

Parma, Ohio is a small town located in the northern part of the United States. The population was 3,591 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Parma-Mount Pleasant micropolitan area. The first settler in Parma was John Ketchum, who arrived in 1796. He named his village after his home city of Parma, Italy. The first store in town was established by Alexander Davidson in 1836. By 1861, there were twelve stores and two hotels operating in town. A post office was founded in 1868 and remained open until it closed its doors on December 1, 1944. The local mills closed during World War II and most residents lost their jobs; however, a few found new businesses that survived into the postwar period: Wertheimer's Department Store (1948), Joplin's Pizza (1950), and First National Bank (1962). In 1978, First National Bank merged with Chase & Co., which left Parma without a bank for six years until Valley View Community Bank reopened operations as an independent institution on October 7, 1984. Today, many aspects of life are based on economic growth rather than traditional milling or retailing activities: culture has been created through art galleries and nightlife venues like The Living Room Lounge; education is provided through three high schools and multiple middle schools; healthcare services are delivered through several medical clinics and pharmacies; as well as professional sports teams including the Cleveland Browns football team and the Akron Zips basketball team that represent Parma throughout the region playoffs each year.
