Lorain is home to the Lorain County shoulder-fired artillery regiment, which was organized on October 20, 1812. The regiment was mustered into service on November 3, 1812. The regiment served in the War of 1812 and saw action at the Battle of Fallen Timbers and the Battle of Black Hawk. In 1814, the regiment was redesignated as a battalion in the 1st Reserve Regiment. On January 15, 1815, it was redesignated again as a brigade in the 5th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. It fought in actions at Perryville and Atchafalaya River. On July 26, 1816, it became a division on December 31, 1816. The division participated in operations against General James Halleck at Missionary Ridge and Battle of New Orleans. It relieved an infantry brigade under General David Hunter at Mobile Bay on January 9,1817. In February 1800s there were two detachments from Lorain's military forces that joined Mexican National Army units fighting against United States forces during their war for independence from Mexico: one detachment under Captain John Copley (a local merchant) and another detachment led by Lieutenant Colonel James Wilkinson (a Quaker). The 1st Battalion (Citizens), Ohio Volunteer Cavalry Militia Company No 2 disbanded after disbanding its unit with other volunteer organizations during Ohio's Tecumseh Uprising; it reorganized as part of Continental Army brigades attacking Vermilion Township near Edwardsburg; this unit also disbanded when peace returned to Northwest Indiana Territory following negotiations between US President George Washington and Native American leaders Treaty commissioners led by Tecumseh - this unit reorganized as part of 1st Battalion (National Guardsmen), Infantry Regiment no 2 commanded by Colonel John French who had been commanding troops loyal to United States government since 1795 when he replaced Major Nathaniel Greene commanding militia companies raised for defense against British Invasion expeditions along Lake Michigan shoreline east of Chicago - colonel French's battalion destroyed buildings used by British confederation troops besieging Fort Dearborn September 11-13 1795 after failed siege attempt; deactivated elements were consolidated with other militiamen units garrisoning fortifications northeast of Chicago May 10-15 1800 due to increasing hostilities between US/Mexico factions over disputed land boundaries near river mouth

Lorain, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Lorain County. The population was 837 at the 2010 census, making it the ninth-largest city in Ohio by population. It is part of the Columbus Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1824 and named for General George Washington Lorrain, who had fought in the War of 1812 and served as an aide to Ulysses S. Grant during that war and later as Secretary of War under Ulysses S. Grant's successor, Andrew Johnson. The first settler on what would become Lorain was Conrad Weiser, who arrived from Germany in 1825 with his family. Weiser erected a log cabin on what is now Main Street NW near Second Street NW in 1830; he became one of the first American citizens to reside there permanently. In 1832, John Cranch established a small farm on what would become East High Street SE just east of present-day Lorain Drive NE; Cranch soon developed land around his farm into a township which he called "Lorain". When Ligonier Township was created from parts of Weiser Township in 1836, Ligonier also became part of that township; however, when Lorain Township was organized into a municipality on April 15, 1889 (following consolidation with other townships within Lorain County), Ligonier remained unincorporated within that municipality until its incorporation into Lorain County on November 17, 1916 During World War II much activity took place at nearby Wright-Patterson Air Force Base including development work for jet aircraft manufacturing which led to local production also starting up at nearby Toledo Blade Paper Company plant before being bought out by Browning Arms Corporation Reisman Firearms Manufacturing Company which moved production back to Smith & Wesson Firearms Plant located south side Avenue Rd./High St./Wright Blvd until closing down after company went bankrupt during recession following war On October 5th 1863 Union general William Tecumseh Sherman ordered all Union forces to retreat from Vandalia after driving Confederate forces out of central Ohio Confederate General Robert Ewing proclaimed victory over Sherman's army near Williamsburg Bridge while some sources say this battle actually happened closer to home at Tiffin where captured Confederate supplies were burned

The first Army Colonel was appointed here and he began issuing orders directing troops how to behave when they encountered friendly Indians. As time passed this new HQ became an important tool used by both General George Washington and British Commander-in-Chief Cornwallis in the conflict. Some of America’s most famous generals such as John Burgoyne and Benedict Arnold received training here including Burgoyne who was later executed at Saratoga Springs following his failed attempt at invading New York City with a small army while under Washington's command

Carnegie built the first railroad in Ohio in 1847 and set up a company town on the condition that it be named after him. The town became known as Carnegie City, before being renamed to Lorain in 1898. In 1925, the city became part of Cleveland and retains its original name today. The downtown area has undergone many changes since its founding, but the core remains a commercial center with high-end buildings and a rich history dating back to its early days as an agricultural community. Many famous people have lived or worked here, including former President Gerald Ford and singer Whitney Houston.

Today, the town is home to a few businesses and is known for its historical architecture including the Lorain County Courthouse which was built between 1901 and 1903.
