The National Guard of the United States of America was originally organized on December 12, 1861 as a military organization to protect the Union during the American Civil War. The first national guard unit in Ohio was organized on November 8, 1871. The first national guard battalion was activated on October 3, 1875. The institution of the national guard in Ohio has come a long way since it began as an organizational entity tasked with providing security for individual state and local governments. In 1941, the armed forces were amalgamated into the Department of Defense and all military assets within the Lima area were transferred to that body under one command. The primary purpose of the Lima Area National Guard remains today to provide support for economic development initiatives in our community and ensure continuity of government operations during times of unrest or majorEmergency situations. However, there are many other branches and functions associated with its mission which include ceremonial events such as parades and armories dedication ceremonies; youth recruitment programs; protection from crime; disaster relief; training for law enforcement officers across our region; emergency response plans; and more!

Lima is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Lima County. The population was 30,643 at the 2010 census. The city is located on the Miami River in central Ohio, about 18 miles (29 km) east of Columbus and about 26 miles (41 km) north-northwest of Dayton. The area now known as Lima was first settled by Native Americans, specifically the Shawnee and Wyandot peoples. The first European to visit this region was Giovanni da Verrazzano, who sailed past what is now Lima on his voyage from Spain to Mexico City on October 15, 1492. In 1771, General George Rogers Clark's army landed here during his ill-fated expedition against Native American leader Tecumseh; many Shawnee died or were captured while trying to flee across the river into Canada. Lima's early history is obscured by numerous wars fought between British colonists and Indian nations over control of this region, but it does contain evidence that settlers arrived in small groups beginning in the late 18th century. A sawmill operated by Quaker missionaries near downtown Lima began operations in 1798; since then, Lima has become one of America's most important manufacturing cities with a strong ties to textiles and other industries dating back to its founding days as an agricultural community."

Lima, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Stark County. The population was 25,711 at the 2010 census. The Greater Lima area includes all or part of six counties: Cuyahoga, Holmes, Lake, Lorain, Medina and Ottawa. The first permanent white settlement in what is now Lima was by fur traders from Canada in 1813. In 1821 the territorial legislature established a provisional government here under the name of "The Shawnee Territory", but it did not have much success anddefaulted on its debts to Congress. In 1825 an act was passed authorizing the erection of a town here by lotteries with $5 each given for founding members; this town was named Clintonville after President James K. Polk's brother-in-law Samuel LathamClinton (1793–1868). When Clintonville failed to take off because there were too few people interested in founding it, a new land lottery called the Stroud Lottery attracted settlers. This time $10 each was given for joining; this town also became known as Lima due to its location near the current State Fairgrounds where many fairs were held during those years (the fairgrounds are now located in Cleveland). In 1830 Peru developed into an important transportation center as commercial travelers traveled between Cincinnati and points east via steamboats up the Scioto River valley past present day Toledo and down into what is now Western Michigan along today's US - Mexico border crossing at Tamaulipas The first post office opened in Lima on July 9th, 1830 One year later on October 15th 1830 David Wills built his gristmill about one mile southeast of downtown on what is now First Avenue North In 1836 John Husted founded two sawmills aroundNW corner of Washington Street & Main Street just south of today's State Fairgrounds; these mills continued operations until 1840 when they burned down due to overuse by mill operators A new courthouse square was laid out northeast of First Avenue North between Highways 54 and 56 opposite JW Marriott Hotel in 1840 which served as courthouse until 1890 when that building burned down along with most other buildings within five years during general fire outbreaks throughout central Ohio caused by exploding gas lamps used extensively then as part of streetlights Lima started taking form as a village when Reuben Aspinwall platted lots adjoining his millstream spring on high ground northwest of Market Square late 1800’s

The Lima National Guard is a battalion of the Ohio Army National Guard. It was organized on December 16, 1912 as the 1st Battalion, Lima Regiment. The unit was redesignated the 3rd Battalion, Lima Regiment on February 7, 1951 and then the 4th Battalion, Lima Regiment on May 15, 1957. The battalion was reactivated as the 1st Brigade Combat Team (3rd Infantry Division), Ohio Army National Guard on November 5, 2013 and joined the brigade in October 2017. Since its inception in 1912, the Lima National Guard has been an important part of our community by providing essential services such as law enforcement and disaster relief. In 2016 alone, we responded to more than 100 emergencies statewide!
