The Hilliard, Ohio Army National Guard was organized on July 15, 1917. The first unit to be activated was the 181st Infantry Regiment. It served in World War I and during World War II. In 1951, the 2d Battalion (H) of the 176th Infantry Regiment was transferred from Fort Knox Barracks, KY to General Service Headquarters at Camp David in Maryland for use as an infantry reserve battalion for the United States Atomic Energy Commission’s Project Manhattan Project. In 1957, this regiment became part of the 1st Brigade Combat Team (Airmobile). The brigade has been triangularized with 3 battalions: 1st Battalion (Mechanized), 2nd Battalion (Armor), and 3rd Battalion (Heavy). In 1978-79, the 1st Brigade Combat Team changed its name to “The Ohio Army National Guard” and it organized under that name until 1999 when it reverted back to its original title of “The Hilliard Army National Guard.” On May 9th, 2009the newly created 4th Brigade Combat Team activated here in Hillsboro Township due to a high demand by our Troops who serve throughout America!

The militiamen were used to suppress Native American riots throughout much of Ohio until 1814 when they were disbanded due to lack of weapons and training. In 1815-1816, about 1,000 pioneers from Warsaw Township founded what became one of the most important towns in Morrow County – Greenfield – on land taken from hill people living near present day Powellton in Price Township (now part of Avon). Greenfield had two key advantages: it was located on high ground across from enemy encampments; also it had access to water supplies available only through canals dug through hillside bedrock—an advantage that made it difficult for troops occupying Greenfield or any nearby settlements to supply their units with food or ammunition effectively. Hilliard is a small city in the U.S. state of Ohio, located on the Scioto River near its junction with the Maumee River. The population was 38,545 at the 2010 census. Hilliard is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. Hilliard was founded by James I. Hill in 1824 as a village on the Scioto River just east of present day Hilliard and west of Akron. In 1827, it became a town under the name "Hilliard." On July 1, 1836, it became an incorporated city when it joined Summit County and took on all of its current boundaries. On July 15, 1942 it merged with parts of Alliance Township to form Hilliard-Alliance Township Municipality which still exists today as an unincorporated community within Summit County limits that has no voting representation in either government body but does have its own police department and fire department). In 1896, George Wertheimer settled in what is now Hilliard and started growing apples for local consumption. He named his orchard "Wertheimer's" after himself and his brother Samuel Wertheimer (1849-1923), who had also started growing apples in nearby Jeffersonville some years earlier. In 1903 Wertheimer donated land to build what is now downtown Hillard on which he erected a large frame building used as a bank until 1907 when he built another large frame building for use as shops and other businesses including Oneida Glass Works where many famous glassmakers made their first attempts at making safe glass products from scratch (the process called " blowing"). Another early resident was Averill Harriman who owned land adjacent to downtown that served as the first shopping mall in North America! The late 1800s were marked by dramatic economic changes due to railroad construction across much of Western Ohio Valley leading up to World War I; this included major highways being built into western Ohio such as State Route 224 which linked Akron with Canton via Hillsboro; new mill towns such as Meadville were established along these routes; moreover, Dayton began becoming increasingly important thanks largely to Scranton shipbuilding capabilities during World War II - making Dayton one of largest cities in Ohio without any signficant industrial growth until after tha war endedanta
