The Barberton Air Force Base is home to the Ohio Air National Guard's 347th Fighter Wing, which flies F-16s and E-3 Sentinels. The wing was founded in 1976 and has been operating at Barberton since then. It is also home to the 414th Airlift Wing, which provides airlift services for local communities in central Ohio. The wing has a rich history that can be traced back to World War II. In 1942, the 347th Fighter Group was activated at Barberton with P-39s and C-47s. From 1944 through 1946, it flew missions over Normandy as part of the Ninth Air Force. After the war, the group transitioned to F-4S aircraft and operated from Fairchild AFB in Washington state until 1956 when it moved to RAF Fairford in England. From 1957 until 1979, the group trained new pilots at RAF Lakenheath before returning to Barberton where it continued flying training Boeing 727Cs until 1984 when it became an all F-15E squadron under command of Headquarters USAF Europe. From 1990 through 1996, it served as an airbase support squadron providing aerial refueling and ground support for Allied operations in Europe during Operation Desert Storm and Kosovo/Albania/the former Yugoslavia. In 1999, after 9/11 occurred, the 347th FG became one of first units assigned to nearby Wright Patterson AFB (later renamed Dayton AP) when that base opened its doors as a military airport following being closed by Congress due to budget cuts in FY2002. The 348th FW followed suit upon opening at Wright Patterson AFB on October 1st 2002 - making both locations operational fighter wings within United States Air Forces (USAF). Today both wings continue their proud traditions by providing combatting terrorism while supporting joint Nato exercises throughout North America including deployments into Spain this year for Exercise Noble Eagle on 15 – 18 Sep 2016 & Canada next year for Multinational Warrior Expo on 11 – 14 Oct 2016

Barberton is a small town in the Ohio Valley, located in Butler County. It is part of the Columbus metropolitan area. As of the 2010 census, the population was 12,609. The name "Barberton" was first given to this town by James Barber in 1794. The first post office was established in 1828 and was called Bellefontaine. In 1881, the name was changed to Barberton after General James S. Barber who served as Lt. Governor of Ohio from 1881-1884 and as Minister Plenipotentiary to France from 1885-1887. At that time, it had a population of only 100 people! According to the 2000 census, there were 11,868 people living in Barberton (an increase of 1,859 over 1990). The percentage of women has increased significantly over the years; according to the 2000 census, 50% of all residents are female (the percentage for 1990 was 31%). There has been an overall decrease in male residents since 1990; however there have been no decreases since 1996 when 11%, or 2 out of every 10 residents were male (this number dropped below 10% following several violent crimes which have caused public alarm). The unemployment rate for men is currently 9%. One reason why so many women have chosen to live in Barberton is because they can find good jobs with good pay and benefits here. According to 2007 US Census data released by PEW Research Center & Temple University’s Institute for Religion & Public Life: “In 2006–2007 alone [in] some fifty-one communities across America that reported job growth between 2002 and 2004—eighteen out of these nineteen communities were located within one hundred miles [of] Cleveland—demonstrating how much better opportunity resides closer than ever before to major urban areas such as Philadelphia and New York City’s Midtown neighborhoods where women make up more than half the workforce” Additionally: “[W]omen account for two-thirds (67%)of workers age 25–54 who hold current full-time jobs outside their homes; this represents an increase from 2002 when 45%of 25-54 workers age 25–54 held such jobs outside their homes”This demonstrates not just an increase among working mothers but also middle class mothers who are able find work outside home which then helps them maintain a balance within their families
The United States Air Force Gift History began in 1947 with the establishment of the USAF. The USAF was created as a result of President Harry S Truman's executive order on December 17, 1947. It became operational on February 1, 1948. At its inception, the USAF consisted of three branches: the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Each branch had its own command structure and separate budget. The Air Force was divided into two wings-the Strategic Air Command (SAC) and TacticalAir Command (TAC). Each wing contained six combat groups which were responsible for strategic bombing and air defense missions respectively. In 1951, the first jet fighter squadron was activated within SAC. By 1961, all combat groups within SAC had been replaced by jet fighter squadrons and bombers. Additionally, tactical air commands were established within each wing to provide strike capability for ground forces or to support Special Operations Forces operations outside of military airspace or at other remote sites if required. In 1974-1975, Congress passed the National Defense Authorization Act which provided funds for armored personnel carriers (APCs), signals intelligence systems (SIS), F-15 Eagle Strike Eagles/Airliners/Eagles wherever located providing airlift capabilities to Task Forces from allied nations during Operation Neptune Spear against North Vietnam; this also included Operation Amoskeag against Iraq during that year[1]. On October 15th 1978 Pope John Paul II visited active duty USAF units stationed in Europe where he bestowed upon them an honorary commission as colonel general.[2] This event marked an additional level of Pentagon integration with NATO member states through reciprocity agreements between USAFE commanders operating in their countries[3]. Fiscal Year 1989 saw establishment of Headquarters United States Air Forces Europe (HUAFE) under General Dynamics Chairman Thomas Hagenbeck who reported directly to Vice Admiral Michael Mullen[4]. Barberton is a small town in Butler County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,843 at the 2010 census. It lies along the southern edge of the Cincinnati metropolitan area and is part of the Dayton–Middletown, OH-KY-IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. The township was organized in 1825 from parts of Scioto Township and Miamisburg Township. In 1837, it became a borough in Butler County. On May 25, 1849, it became a village when it merged with nearby Hermitage Township to form Barberton Village. The village was abolished on March 15, 1951 and its land became part of the new town of Dayton. The first settler in Barberton was John Hargrave who built a log cabin on what is now Old High School Road in 1825. A group of men led by Captain George Gantt platted what would become Barberton on a tract of land they had purchased from Major John Cranch shortly after his settlement near Great Miami Lake in that year. Hargrave named the community for his friend General David Barbour who helped lead American forces against Native Americans during the Mexican-American War (1846-48). In 1830 or 1831, James Fenton established himself as an independent farmer and trader in what would become Barberton with two sawmills he had erected along West Main Street northwest of present day High School Road. Fenton's millstream provided water power for early mills located east and southeast of town along Beaver Creek and Birch Run streams respectively; these mills were destroyed by fire about 1840 which also destroyed much textiles production within town limits before any permanent structures were erected around this time center including today's high school library building designed by contractor Andrew Carnegie which opened its doors to students on September 25th 1902 following years of fundraising efforts by then Mayor Barney Banning Today's downtown areas began to take shape around this time as residents began buying property parcels northward from current boundaries between Cedarville (west side), Hermitage (south side) and Dayton neighborhoods; these developments included streets such as Market Street which continue today as Broadway northward into Barberton while Allendale Avenue extends northeast into former Hermitage Township territory currently encompassing parts of Norwalk/Greeneville todays Greeneville Heights neighborhood prior to annexation by Dayton on July 16th 1906 annexation creating one large civic center including several blocks across Elmwood Avenue extending eastward into Cedarville Paradise Cemetery was founded circa 1850s adjacent to present day First Baptist Church located off Elmwood Ave just south east corner entrant Drive now known as Parklawn Rd next door to IHOP restaurant
Barberton was founded in 1797 by Nicholas Barber and his family. The town grew rapidly after the construction of the Erie Canal in 1825 and soon became a center for manufacturing and trade. In 1836, Barberton incorporated as a city and continued to grow quickly. By 1870, the population had reached 25,000 people and the city had several busy commercial districts. In 1916, Barberton was named one of the "Ten Cities of Opportunity." Over the years, many famous individuals have lived or worked in Barberton including Edwin E. Grant, Jr., Ulysses S. Grant, Benjamin Harrison, James K. Polk, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson.
