This is a rush transcript of a talk given by Jameson Henson, co-founder and CTO of Blue Origin, at the 2017 North Dakota Economic Development Authority's 'Innovation Summit.' Hi there! My name is Jameson Henson and I'm the co-founder and CTO of Blue Origin. We're here to talk about some of our work on space exploration. And one area we're really interested in is 3D printing. One thing we've been working on is developing printing technology for aerospace products. So we can print parts quickly and easily using high-quality materials that are available right now. And we're seeing some amazing results with this technology. For example, last year, we worked with Boeing to produce a new airplane called the New Shepard. It's a reusable spacecraft that uses 3D printing to create its parts. And it flew successfully test flights last year! So far, we've produced over 20 different parts for this airplane using 3D printing techniques. And each part has been successfully printed and tested! We think this technology can be very important in the future both for aircraft design and also for other creative products such as prosthetic devices or medical implants!!!
Grand Forks, North Dakota is a small city in central ND that was founded in 1868. The population of the City increased from around 10,000 to over 25,000 by 1930. The city has experienced many changes throughout its history, but has always been an important center for trade and commerce. In the early days of Grand Forks’s existence as a town, it was home to a few hundred residents. By 1870, the population had grown to 1,500 and by 1900 it had reached 5,000. The growth of Grand Forks was due in part to its location at the edge of what was then known as the Great Sioux Nation and its importance as a commercial center for eastern ND. The first post office in Grand Forks opened on September 12th, 1872. It served only local residents until 1888 when it became the responsibility of the Territorial government. The first mail carrier arrived in Grand Forks on November 2nd, 1875. By 1895 there were over 20 post offices operating within Grand Forks limits and mail service expanded rapidly thanks to advances in Pony Express transportation methods and equipment. By 1920 there were more than 50 post offices serving rural districts outside of town while also providing services to businesses inside town limits including banking institutions and transportation terminals servicing alluvial plains areas east of Fargo across 8 counties (Fargo County included). During World War II, Grand Forks played an important role as one of five military supply points for eastern ND during Operation Overlord which aimed to drive Nazi troops out of Europe. After returning from war Iahegyi Business District opened adjacent to Chamberlayne Terminal which handled truckloads of goods arriving fromGermany via Minnesota en route back home In 1963-1964 construction began on Interstate 94 which would connect Fargo with Winnipeg via North Dakota’s most northerly point making GrandeForks one stop on this major highway system giving rise to new business opportunities for local entrepreneurs In 1984-1985 grandfork businessmen created the North Dakota Arts Council intended “to promote creativity among artists living or working near grandFork” A year later they established American Folklife Center dedicated “to preserving traditional folk art traditions through research and education”grandFork also became home turf for America’s Cup racing sanctioning body FIM Speedway USA
