The Lenoir National Guard has been providing service to the people of North Carolina since 1792. The unit was first organized as a militia regiment in 1792 and fought in the American Revolution. After the war, the Lenoir National Guard continued to serve in various capacities until 1971, when it became an all-volunteer force. In 1976, the Lenoir National Guard was redesignated as the North Carolina Army National Guard. Today, the Lenoir National Guard is one of only a few national guard units in the United States that is still active and serving its citizens. The Lenoir National Guard owes its existence to two important events: The establishment of North Carolina by South Carolina during the Revolutionary War and then, later, by Virginia during Reconstruction. In both cases, northern Virginians were called upon to help protect their southern brethren from attack by General George Washington’s forces. As a result, local militias were formed and trained to provide security for northwestern NC during this time period. While these militias did not become part of what we now know as the United States Armed Forces (USAF), they did play an important role in helping keep our state safe during these tumultuous times. This history has legacy that continues today as members of The Lenoir City Council pledge their allegiance to country while wearing their military uniforms at city hall on Patriot Day! One such example is Aiden Stephens who served with distinction with The Lenoir Cityguard from 2013-2015; he was diagnosed with cancer early stage and had surgery scheduled for January 15th but due to health concerns underwent radiation therapy instead which successfully cured him! Similarly, Nathan Pugh also served his community proudly with TheLenoirGuard from 2014-2016; he lost his leg belowthe knee after being shot while servinghis country errands!Both men are examples of how you can serve your country honorably even if you don’t have combat experience or any military decorations!

However, by 1870-71 Lenoir's population had decreased to about 250 people because ofalldieproductivity on the part of local farmers. Despite this decline,Lenoir has continued to maintain its social prominence throughout its history due to its rich cultural heritage and strong sense of community values which have helped it remain an important tourist destination in North Carolina today
