When Havelock, North Carolina was founded in 1795 as a small trading post by settlers on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, it was a key center for coastal defense. The first Coast Guard station was built here in 1833 and the present-day Coast Guard Station Havelock was constructed in 1928. The Coast Guard has played an important role in Havelock since its earliest days. In 1933, the first Coast Guardsmen were assigned to Patrol Squadron One and they quickly became known as “the Boys from the Bay” because of their involvement in patrolling the coastlines of North Carolina and Virginia. The unit continued to play an important role until World War II when it was disbanded due to budget limitations. During World War II, the Coast Guard again played a critical role by providing personnel and equipment to support military campaigns on both sides of the Atlantic ocean. In 1945, Coastal Command structure was changed and with it came responsibility for coastal guard assignments throughout Great Britain and Europe. This gave rise to another term for these men - “The London Boys” because their work took them ashore near Buckingham Palace. In 1957, Coastal Command merged with NATO which resulted in reductions in resources for the Coast Guard however Captain Don Fornace felt that this didn't mean that Coastal Command couldn't provide anymore assistance when needed during emergencies such as hurricanes or earthquakes. So when Hurricane Floyd made landfall on September 15th 1999Havelock's Station responded quickly with aid arriving within minutes after landfall followed by relief efforts until well into Sunday evening local time In total more than 1400 people were rescued across twelve counties including 350 dogs who helped search for victims along with 16 helicopters which flew over 500 miles looking for any sign of survivors or damage . As is typical during natural disasters such as hurricanes there are many unanswered questions regarding what exactly happened at Havelock that night resulting in much heartache and research still being done today

Havelock is a small town in Alamance County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 2,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Raleigh–Durham, NC-VA-MD Metropolitan Statistical Area. Havelock was founded by Colonel George Washington in 1772 as a stop on his way from Bertie to Charlotte. In 1824 it became the seat of Alamance County after its inclusion within that county from Randolph County. The courthouse was built in 1827 and dedicated by President James K. Polk on July 4th of that year The post office was established at Havelock in 1837 and served until 1902 In 1907, Havelock incorporated as a city under the name of "New Bern". New Bern again merged with Alamance County in 1971 when both towns were reincorporated within their current boundaries A referendum to secede from Alamance County failed at 64% on November 3rd, 1998; however, this did not mean that Havelock would be annexed by Durham or Cary as had been rumored earlier in the year The first African American to serve as Mayor of Havelock was Melvin Willis who held office from 1984 through 1992

Havelock was founded in 1781 by a Dutchman, Cornelius Havelock. The town became an important center for the Carolina region due to its location on the Yadkin River. It rose to prominence as a Produce and lumber town during the early 1800s. In 1824, Havelock was renamed Antietam after General Robert E. Lee's victory at that battle in Virginia. The town experienced another growth period during the late 1800s and early 1900s thanks to new transportation methods such as railroadroads and buses. The post-World War II boom brought about many new development projects in the area including an amusement park and shopping mall. However, Havelock has seen some decline over the years including closures of several businesses and a loss of population due to migration elsewhere in North Carolina or out of state altogether.
