America’s first warship was a small boat, the HMS Lexington, and it served for only three months before being destroyed by French warships. In 1853, USS Constitution was reactivated as the flagship of Commodore George Dewey during the American Civil War. The ships were used to transport troops and supplies throughout the war zone. After the war, Constitution returned home and she donated her entire armament ( cannon, torpedoes, shells) to become part of the Smithsonian Institution’s collection. In 1931-1932, USS President Cleveland (AWS-4) underwent conversion at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard into a naval airship hangar and she became one of America’s most famous maritime symbols. She continued serving as an airship until 1945 when she sunk after hitting a mine while sailing off Long Island City Beach.

Lindenhurst is a town in Westchester County, New York, United States. The population was 5,853 at the 2010 census. Lindenhurst is part of the White Plains–Midtown-New Rochelle Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what would become Lindenhurst was Nicholas Clausen who arrived on horseback from Norway on November 3, 1786. He and his family built a cabin near present day intersection of Route 9 and Church Street. It was not until 1810 that they moved to their current location and began to farm land which they did until 1827 when they became proprietors of the mill called "Langsdorf" (now Langsdorf Paper Mill). In 1868, John Pappas bought the mill site from the Clausens and started to build a new mill with three floors which he named "Pappas' Mill". The first floor housed the machinery while the second floor housed houses for workers. The third floor held the larger machines used in papermaking such as an sawmill, importers changes room and dye house. In 1912, Pappas donated land to form what would become known as Lindenhurst Park. After World War II, local production of paper shifted from mills to automated printing presses using dyesNEWS's new blueprinting process which created many jobs for women during that time period; however these plants closed down by 1992 after advances in technology caused cheaper products to be produced without bleaching agents thus reducing jobs opportunities for women throughout East Asia thereby decreasing demand for lindenhurst paper product line consequent layoffs throughout East Asia resulting in massive social activism including picketing within town limits against these plant closures ultimately leading to their reversal through negotiations between Mayor James Jagger and then-Governor Mario Cuomo resulting in state law being changed retroactively granting employment rights back to woman upon closure of these plants creating over 1/3rds century resurgence of male ownership withinEast Asian economies culminating with establishment of LindenhurstPaper Museum today serving as an educational resource about this history

Lindenhurst is a village in Orange County, New York, United States. The population was 1,441 at the 2010 census. Lindenhurst is part of the Syracuse-Oneonta-Albany Metropolitan Statistical Area. It was founded in 1792 by Scotsman Archibald Campbell and his family. The first settler in what would become Lindenhurst was Alexander McGillivray who arrived in 1792 from Isle of Skye with his wife and two children. McKelvray erected a log cabin on the north side of present day Main Street where he lived for over forty years until 1814 when he sold his land to John McDermott for $550 plus expenses. In 1824, James Hickey bought McKelvray's land and built a house on it which served as the first courthouse for Orange County. McDermott had been born in Scotland but came to America to escape religious persecution there at the time he acquired this property. He also started a soap business here which prospered until 1857 when an act of Congress made soap manufacturing illegal within USA due to pollution concerns caused by large factories then being constructed downtowns across America at that time. Until its liquidation in 1932, Jardine & Lewin (J&L) operated one of the most successful Textile companies in America during that era with production sites located throughout eastern New York including Lindenhurst (now part of Syracuse). When that company went bankrupt, many people within Lindenhurst lost their jobs too – some even moving out because they could no longer afford to live there without paychecks coming into their homes each week; however, they all won back their houses after Jardine & Lewin failed to file bankruptcy again just four years later!
Lindenhurst was first founded in 1792 by John Lindenbaum. The town was named for him and his wife, Judith. In 1825, it became a village. Lindenhurst is now a city in New York State.
