The United States Navy has a rich history in Los Lunas, New Mexico. The city was originally founded by Spanish settlers in the 17th century and was known as San Miguel de Allende. In 1905, the Naval Base of Los Lunas was established here and it continues to be an important part of American naval life today. The first ships that sailed into Los Lunas were anchored at the wharf on what is now Main Street. From here, they would take on goods and passengers travelling up the Rio Grande. The USS Constitution, built in 1801, is still one of America's oldest warships and can be seen docked at the navy base today. Throughout its centuries-long relationship with the US Navy, Los Lunas has played an important role in both military operations and cultural activities. Today, there are more than 100 active marines stationed here alongside a diverse range of civilian employees from various sectors of society. This community has also been home to numerous naval officers who have served in both world wars – including Admiral Chester Nimitz (1905-1941), Commander-in-Chief of US Pacific Fleet during World War II; Rear Admiral Harry S Truman (1945-1953). In recent years, there have been increasing calls for United States Naval bases around the world to close their doors due to budget cuts – something which cannot be recommended highly enough given how beneficial they are both militarily and economically for our country overall. However, while closures may be inevitable at some point down the line, it is important not to forget all that Los Lunas has contributed to our military heritage over these many years!

Los Lunas is a small town in New Mexico, United States. It is located on the south-central border of the state and lies east of Socorro. The name "Lunas" means "moonlight." The population was 3,521 at the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1847 by José María Cárdenas and his family as a cattle rancho called Rancho de Los Lunas. In 1863, Cárdenas sold the ranch to Manuel Micheltorena and his family, who renamed it Rancho Las Cruces. In 1916, las cruces became part of los Lunas when it formed part of the newly organized County of Albuquerque. In 1924, Los Lunas incorporated as a village under the name Oficina de Gobierno (Office of Government). It changed its name to los Lunas in 1951 after becoming an unincorporated community within the new County of Luna. In 1958, los Lunas became an incorporated municipality under the name Oficina Municipal de la Ciudad del Carmen (Municipality Office for La Mesa). It changed its name to los Lunas again in 1978 after becoming an unincorporated community within the new County of Luna once again. Los Lunas (New Mexico) is a small town located in Doña Ana County, New Mexico, United States. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Gallup-Lubbock metropolitan area. The name "Los Lunas" means "the lonesome place." The first inhabitants of what is now Los Lunas were the Pueblo de los Llanos people who lived there from pre-historic times. The town was platted in 1858 by an act of Congress and named for General José María de la Peña y Gómez, then Lieutenant Governor of New Mexico Territory. It became a municipal seat in 1872 and remained so until 1912 when it became a county seat. In 1907–1909, an experimental water project was conducted by the United States Geological Survey at Fort Sumner which resulted in a new stream being created within the edge of present day Los Lunas courthouse square (now known as Park Avenue). This project has been called "the beginning of Albuquerque's water program." Today, most residentsook advantage of this newly developed infrastructure during both World War I and World War II because they could not get potable water from wells or other sources near their homes. Municipal services were sporadic throughout much of this time because appropriations were very low; however, with increased funding due to drought conditions and better transportation methods through improved roads and highways over the years, civic services have become more common and reliable. 2% growth rate since 2000
