Since the beginning of time, armies have been a part of every culture. From ancient Greece and Rome to World War II and present day, there has always been a military presence in Los Lunas. The town was founded by Spanish settlers in the early 1800s, and soon became known as the "Military Village" due to its proximity to Fort Sumter and its large army garrison. The United States Civil War began in 1861, and within months Los Lunas had become one of the most hotly contested towns on the front line. By 1865, it was estimated that over 100,000 Americans had died in Southern California's engagements with Confederate forces. In honor of this significant event,Los Lunas dedicated a street corner to Union General Ulysses S. Grant (1812-1877). In 1907, the US Army built an airfield near Los Lunas for use by bombers during World War I. Known as Camp Upton during those days, it eventually served as home to both the Air Corps Museum and currently houses the New Mexico Military Museum. Today there is also an annual parade through downtownLos Lunas honoring fallen service members from all branches of the military. During World War II Los Lunas played host to two major airfields: Laughlin Field on Mount Hope Boulevard and Gillespie Field on Paseo del Carmen Avenue. These locations were important for training both American fighter pilots and bomber crews during WWII. A small museum located adjacent to Laughlin Field tells the story of this pivotal moment in our country's history. Today there are ample reminders that our military community is present here in Los Lunas – from Soldiers' graves at Arlington National Cemetery to Ft Sill National Military Park which features displays about nearby Naval activity dating backto 1846!

The Los Lunas, New Mexico Army National Guard was organized on November 15, 1912. The first unit to be raised in the town was the 114th Infantry Regiment. On July 1, 1915, the regiment became part of the 21st Infantry Division. On September 25, 1916, the division became part of World War I and began recruiting for a total of 2 battalions. On November 8, 1916, select units from both divisions reported for training at Camp Bowie in Maryland. They were later joined by two more battalions from California and New Mexico. On January 26 1917, all Battalions were operational and had their assigned brigades as follows: Brigadier General Manuel J. Ortiz took command of the 21st Infantry Division on February 10 1917 after it was re-organized with three brigades instead of two due to World War I casualties. The division's new headquarters were located at Fort Stanton in Tucson until May 1918 when they moved to Fort Bliss in Dallas Texas where they remained until October 1918 when they returned home to Los Lunas. In 1919-1920 there was a reorganization of commands within the US Army which resulted in an increase in desertion rates among troops serving in World War I veteran formations (eccentricities that continue into present day). As a result on May 22 1920 Major General Domingo Sánchez y Peña ordered all army divisions stationed outside Puerto Rico be dissolved and their members must report directly to him instead under his newly created Departmental Commanding officer system known as "Divisionesinternacionales" or "DIC". This change affected not only Army National Guards but also other reserve components such as infantry regiments and artillery batteries which operated independently until 1924 when these forces were slated for disbandment along with any remaining World War I veterans units not assimilated into modern armies followingWorld War II mobilization guidelines mandated by President Franklin D Roosevelt’s “New Order” program
Los Lunas, New Mexico is a small town located in the cattle country of central New Mexico. It was founded in 1881 by Manuel Antonio Luna and his wife María de la Cruz Luna. The population of Los Lunas at the time of its founding was about 350 people. In 1907, Los Lunas became an incorporated municipality. In 1912, it became a county seat and remained so until 1957 when it lost its county status and became a town again. The current population is around 1,500 people. The area now known as Los Lunas was originally part of what was called the Papago Park reservation. This area lay between present-day Albuquerque and Las Cruces on the east side of the Rio Grande River. As US Santa Fe Trail travel increased through this region, increasing numbers of settlers began to arrive and purchase land in what is now Los Lunas County. These people were mostly Hispanic American ranchers who grew corn, beans, wheat, dairy products and other crops on their properties or leased them from Mexican landowners whom they also taxed heavily for access to these resources which made them very prosperous. In 1881 Manuel Antonio Luna bought 4 acres in what is now downtown Los Lunas from José Ortiz de Camargo y Pinto for $125 cash plus 10% interest on each year's crop income that he earned from leasing his land out to other farmers or ranchers for use as farming land or grazing cows on it during those years; this lease allowed him to act as both landlord (in charge of all aspects concerning tenant’s behavior) and tenant (owing dues/ rent). After Lopez’ death in 1865 due to natural causes (a heart attack), his widow María de la Cruz Luna continued managing her husband’s property until 1870 when she sold it to José Ortiz de Camargo y Pinto again with 5% interest per year on total sales proceeds arising from leases with others including ranching operations operated by men such as Lorenzo Guerra & Vicente Huerta who had also leased their lands out over several years beginning before 1840 To Juan Nepomuceno Hernández who had been leasing some portions adjacent rights-of-way near Socorro since 1848 From Cipriano Romo Land grant given c1846 To Francisco Javier Romero Fornaray mid 1850s By Don Fernando Ruiz Arroyo grantee 14 July 1860 The first post office established at present day Paso Robles may have been established at La Veta Springs about 7 miles upriver from Rancho Campesinos where mail delivery services stopped abruptly due to Indian hostilities on 24 October 1861 because no horses could be obtained for delivering letters north which might have caused political embarrassment General Winfield Scott ordered Brigadier General James Fenton commanding First Brigade Third Division under Major General John Jellison march down river opposite Apache village 21 October 1861 after interception of mail leading into Tucson Arizona Territory seeking assurance Ute peaceable remains not taken prisoner any According to USGS records: "After Mexican–American War ended CEU [New Mexico] boundaries shifted westward resulting inlos lunas becoming part Sinaloa County" There are many references throughout history pointing out that there never really was any change territorial wise within New Mexico once California gained full sovereignty over the state following the Treaty Of Guadalupe Hidalgo whichspecified that Californians would remain responsible only for Indian Removal efforts while Mexicans were responsible for everything else within their territory including irrigation systems owned by non-Mexican citizens west of Anza Creek - an event which took place between November 1784 - February 8th 1847 inclusive along approximately 650 miles long defined by an approximately 12 mile wide corridor running southwesterly extending across most parts today comprising parts Featherston Canyon Scenic Byway EB Rd #2 SOUTH OF LOS LUNAS County Seat

The town dates back to 1821 when Spanish settlers arrived in New Mexico and named it Las Lunas for the moon phases. In 1840, there were only about 125 residents living within las lunas limits; however this number grew rapidly due to its strategic location on the San Miguel River between Santa Fe and Albuquerque. By 1860, las lunas had become an important commercial center with a thriving agricultural sector as well as numerous manufacturing businesses including flour mills, saddles and harnesses, candles and soap production plants. However, by 1920, local economic conditions had deteriorated so much that only one resident still lived there - Alice Hodge - making los Lunas one of the last small towns remaining throughout New Mexico during those years of declines in its population. The town's history can be traced back to two primary periods: early Spanish settlement (1821-1825) which saw a rapid growth due to its strategic location on the San Miguel River; and later American occupation (1860-1920), during which las lunas experienced significant decreases both in population size as well as economic activity due largely to internal migration from surrounding communities left behind during Mexican rule over New Mexico .
