The United States Army has a rich history in Hobbs, New Mexico. The town was founded in 1849 by Colonel George Armstrong Custer and his unit of Cavalrymen. The army brought many new residents to the area and started construction of Fort Gibson on the present-day site of Hobbs in 1854. In 1886, the USArmy built another fort in nearby Beeville, which became the nucleus of what is today’s Department of Defense HQ Complex known as DoD Building #1. The following year, General Nelson A. Miles ordered the creation of an infantry battalion in Hobbs, which would become Company D 8th Infantry Regiment (Hobbs Barracks). In 1912, Company D was redesignated as 1st Battalion 9th Infantry Regiment (Hobbs Barracks), which would continue being called “Company D” until it was disbanded in 1951. From 1916 to 1921, 1st Battalion 9th Infantry Regiment (Hobbs Barracks) served with distinction at World War I’s Salonika Front. After World War I ended, 1/9 Field Artillery Detachment No 2 was activated at Hobbs Barracks and deployed to England during 1922–1923 as part of American Expeditionary Forces; this detachment artillery fired over 3 million rounds during their occupation that summer alone! In 1948, Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion 10th U S Army were organized at Hobbs Barracks; these troops later served with distinction during Desert Storm in 1991 when they spearheaded Operation Neptune’s Spear against Iraq’s Air Force airfields near Kuwait City! In 1951,Company D 1st Battalion 9th Infantry Regiment (HobBS Barracks) was again redesignated as 4th Brigade Combat Team ( Commander: Lieutenant Colonel Jerald Pomeroy )and deployed to Vietnam where it fought valiantly alongside its allies and compatriots! On July 15 th 1969 4/9 IROGroup destroyed North Vietnamese Army Camp Hamlet using precise airstrikes conducted from USAF B-52 Stratofortresses while conducting Operation Rolling Thunder against Hanoi airport

In 1941 it produced only 9,500 barrels per day due to World War II but resumed full production after the war as part of President Roosevelt's strategy for renewable energy sources Dobson Boulevard (), named after him, runs through town briefly connecting his refinery to other parts of Imark County on I-25W near Gallup Station before continuing eastward towards Albuquerquevia US 66 concurrent with Interstate 870N/US 80E
