The history of the United States Air Force gift program began in Deming, New Mexico, on July 17, 1948. The first gift was a shipment of surplus military surplus aircraft from North American Aviation to Republic Airlines. In 1951, when Republic Airways merged with American Airlines, the Air Force gifted two Lockheed L-1049 Super Constellation passenger jets to the merged airline. These were the first and only gifts in this series. In 1957, PacificAir Corporation donated four Boeing 707s (N906P) to be used by the Air Force as part of its Airlift Command's C-130 Hercules fleet. These planes were also the last gifts in this series. From 1958 through 1966, donations from General Electric Company totaled $2 million for use by the Air Force in support of civil aviation programs across all branches of service. The planes donated included GE CF-7B Starfighters and GE CF-8 Crusader jet trainers. Beginning on October 1, 1966, General Dynamics Corporation donated six McDonnell Douglas MD-121H turboprops (F4U/C) to be used by NASA for space shuttle launches and other Department of Defense applications during Project Apollo. This was followed by McDonnell Douglas' donation of eight Boeing 747s (E5L/A) to NASA for use as habitats and spacecraft during Project Mercury or "Manned Spacecraft."

The Deming Air Force Base gift history began with the donation of a hangar in 1947. The base was formed from the merger of two military wings, the Fourth Wing and Ninth Wing. In 1959, the Air Force activated its first jet unit,the 107th Tactical Airlift Squadron. In 1966, a new wing was created to house Multi-Role Fighter aircraft and it was called the Fifth Wing. In 1970, a missile squadron was activated at Deming AFB and it became known as "Deming Missile Squadron". In 1984, an observation post was built on top of Mt. Blanca and it became known as "O'NeillObservation Post". In 1990, another wing was created when the Eighth Wing merged with elements of the Fourth Wing. This new wing became known as "Deming Air National Guard" in honor of Gen. Edmond J. Flynn Jr., who served as commander of U.S Forces Central Command during Operation Desert Storm in 1991-1992. General Flynn also served as demitrinister for Defense Planning and Policy at Headquarters USAF from 1992-1994. Today, there are over 100 units stationed at Deming AFB including: The Air National Guard's 4th Brigade Combat Team; 103rd Intelligence Group; 106th Attack Squadron; 134th Rescue Squadron; 166th Maintenance Squadron; 181st Operations Support Squadron; 192d Civil Engineer Battalion; 203d Flying Training Regiment; 206th Security Forces Squadron/Air Traffic Control Unit/Airlines Service Element/Ground Surveillance Activity Unit (ATSU); 912 Expeditionary Aviation Unit (EAVU) assigned to Guam airlift mission flown by Navy E-4D Hawkeye helicopters outfitted with Mallard Bird Dog avionics system

On July 1, 1951, the United States Air Force created its own gift shop in honor of General Curtis LeMay. The first store was located at Wright-Patterson AFB and it featured numerous items related to the military and aerospace industry. The Shop continued to grow over time and eventually opened a second location at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Arlington, Virginia in 1978. In 2002, the USAF Museum launched an online store which continues to be operational today. In 2013, the USAF Museum celebrated its centennial with a series of commemorative gifts that included an air force museum car and Corvette.
Deming is a small town in New Mexico that has been home to many different types of businesses and people. The Deming area has a rich history dating back to the 1800s. There are many different types of businesses in the Deming area, including restaurants, stores, and agricultural businesses. In addition, there are a few factories and other businesses in the town. The first settlers in Deming were Spanish colonists who arrived in 1619. The Spanish built their first settlements near present-day Deming. The Spaniards founded two missions here- one called Nuestra Senora de la Esperanza and the other called San Francisco de Asís. After years of settlement, most of the Spanish colonists died from disease or accidents while outfitting for their new mission sites. In 1828, Mexican immigrants began moving into what is now Deming from central Mexico City. By 1830, about 50 people lived in Deming proper with nine churches and two schools. This growth was due to land grants offered by Major General Antonio López de Santa Anna to Mexican immigrants who had formed an uprising against Mexican rule on November 15th of that year (1829). After independence was granted to New Mexico on January 6th of 1846, many Mexicans decided they wanted to become part of this new country as well. Many men left their homes behind and took up arms against Mexican forces during the rebellion known as the Pueblo Revolt (1846-48). Many Mexicans also settled in Albuquerque after successfully defending themselves from Apache attacks during this time period (1847-49). Over time, some business families started coming to Deming because they felt it would be easier to get supplies needed for their farmsteads than traveling all around New Mexico like they had done before (Kilroy et al., 1998). One important factor that led to growth at our current location was horse transportation which became available starting in 1840 when Año Negro roads were opened up throughout southern New Mexico Territory (Demings1974). By 1850, horses were being used extensively for goods transport within and outside of New Mexico Territory (Healy & Hargrave 1990; Kilroy et al., 1998). At this point livestock production became very important withinNewMexico Territory because it allowed for continued trade with Texas without havingto cross numerous mountains or travel through hostile territory
The Deming Massacre took place on October 21, 1924, when a group of gunmen killed five unarmed men in the town of Deming, New Mexico. The men were local merchants who had organized to protest the construction of a new oil pipeline that would run through their town.
