In 1978, Congress passed the Gun Control Act which made it a felony to possess a semiautomatic rifle or shotgun without a license from the Attorney General or state police officer present at all times while hunting or fishing within 1 mile of any public school or playground. This law also extended these prohibitions to private property if done with intent to commit an offense against anyone therein (emphasis added). On December 5th, 2014,Alamogordo city officials announced they were going ahead with plans to tear down downtown's iconic white building known as The Palace because its use as an armory has been discontinued since 1981 and there are now no plans for it being used as such again ever again (cited by News 8). Alamogordo is a small town in New Mexico, United States. The population was 9,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Alamogordo County seat and has a jurisdictional area of 331 square miles (860 km2). The Albuquerque-based Black Hills Apache Tribe owns much of Alamogordo's land. The first people to live in what is now Alamogordo were the Hopi people. They built their own villages near present-day White Sands National Monument and used natural resources such as coal, oil, uranium and silver to support their culture and economy. In 1881, gold was discovered in southeastern New Mexico and Alamo City became one of the most important mining towns in America due to its location on the San Juan River. By 1912 there were over 1,000 mines operating in this region. In 1915 General John J Pershing ordered all Native Americans living east of US 95 to move west into reservations or be relocated. Many chose to relocate rather than face force from Pershing's soldiers who were looking for minerals not food sources. As a result of this decision many Hopi people lost their homes and businesses as well as most of their cultural heritage which remain today within Alamo City limitsOnly about 10% of original Hopi village remains today within city limits although entire complex including ceremonial center & residential areas survive intact with few alterations since then In 1951 an agreement was reached between the United States government and three Navajo Nation tribes regarding claims by both groups on each others land that had been acquired during the Mexican–American War years before that time.. This resulted in much development taking place around newly created Navajo Nation boundaries which are still seen today by many in Alamogordo as being rightfully theirs regardless of any claimed ownership by other entities .. Today there are more than 20 agencies administering tribal lands within City Limits ..

The town grew rapidly due to its location at the junction of several wagon routes. By 1912, Alamogordo had over 1,000 residents and boasted a school and library. In 1916, the United States Congress created a national monument in honor of General Crocker and his service in World War I. This led to increased development in the town and by 1922 there were over 4,500 residents living here. During World War II, Alamogordo became one of the most heavily bombed areas in North America. Over 50% of all airplane wreckage found within a radius of 10 miles of Alamogordo was destroyed or damaged during this time period. However, despite this devastation, life continued to operate relatively unimpaired until 1945 when Japan surrendered unconditionally following World War II. As a result of these events, many people left Alamogordon for various reasons - some because they wanted to escape destruction (as happened with almost all major cities during World War II), others because they felt it necessary to avoid any potential conflict that could have arisen from their presence; however importantly none left without good memories or lasting friendships made while living in Alamogordon! Today Almoglodgo retains much its early history with an active population numbering around 500 residents who enjoy local businesses and cultural attractions such as music festivals and art shows throughout the year
