The New Brunswick Coast Guard was founded in 1795 and has been providing safety and security to the citizens of New Brunswick since then. The Coast Guard is responsible for Protecting the coastline, waters, and air space of New Brunswick County. The Coast Guard also responds to emergencies such as hurricanes and earthquakes. The first coast guard gift was a flagpole. In 1876, a small boat called the “Crazy Horse” was donated by Captain John A. Macdonald with donations from local businesses. This boat was used to search for lost vessels along the western coast of New Jersey. In 1912, a radar station was built on Long Island in order to track ships during storms. This station helped prevent many injuries and deaths when ships were hitting land during storms. In 1970, an engine house was donated by Prentice Lumber Company in order to help improve icebreaker capabilities. This engine house is now used by NJ Transit as their headquarters while they build new buses in Camden Yards. The Coast Guard has always been involved in giving back to society through donations and fundraisers throughout the years. In 2006, the Coast Guard organized its largest ever fundraiser which raised over $100,000 for charity!

The New Brunswick, New Jersey Coast Guard Auxiliary was established on January 1, 1916. In 1922, the Coast Guard Auxiliary purchased a fuel tanker from the Delmarva Lines Corporation. On October 25, 1928, the Coast Guard Auxiliary received its first vessel - a tugboat named "National". On December 3, 1930, the Coast Guard Auxiliary acquired its second vessel - an ocean liner called "New Hope". In 1934-35, the Auxiliary built a small wooden pier in Monmouth County and used it as their base of operations for training new officers and men. In 1938-39, the Coast Guard Auxiliary built a new pier in Ocean county and used it as their base of operations for training new officers and men. In 1941-42, the Coast Guard Auxiliary completed construction of their third Vessel - an ocean liner called "Hope". In 1944-45, they constructed a fourth Vessel - an ocean liner called "Golden Globe". In 1946-47 they constructed anotherOcean liner called"Moses Mose II" which served until 1971 when she was sold to Norwegian Cruise Line.
New Brunswick is a city in New Jersey, located on the Delaware River. The population was 37,363 at the 2010 census, making it the ninth-largest city in New Jersey and its most populous municipality. It is also one of the most ethnically diverse cities in America. The area that now makes up what is now New Brunswick was part of Trenton Township until 1764, when it became part of Hunterdon County. In 1836, it became a separate county under the name of Middlesex County. On January 1, 1911, New Brunswick acquired from Middlesex County all of the lands east of Sussex Avenue (now Livingston Street) and south of York Boulevard which forms what are now downtown and much of Southside Park. The city limits were enlarged by annexing portions of Princeton and Morris Plains to form another district called West Side Borough on July 1, 1934. The first European settlers arrived in what is now New Brunswick early in 1682 by landing on an island near present-day Newark Bay. They were led by Captain John Smith who named the island "Island week" because they spent six weeks there during his exploration voyage along the Rutgers–Paulsboro Expedition in 1681-1683. Dutch traders soon followed and established trading posts here; these included Fort Christina atop a hill overlooking today's Government Square (then known as Market Square), founded about 1684 by Nicholas Denys de Brybier with assistance from Englishman Sir George Carteret as part of an effort to open up New Netherland to English trade. At first Denys leased land from local Native Americans; but over time he purchased more land including present-day Central Park and some tracts extending into Manhattan Beach on Long Island Sound). In February 1709 two young Frenchmen - Jean Chrétien d’Iberville and René La Salle - landed at Perth Amboy on Long Island with three ships commanded by Jacques Marquette forthe fur trade with North American Indians; their enterprise failed because there was no suitable beach or harbor available for their ships to berth safely ashore (see history: History of Long Island Sound). Frustrated at this lack thereof, d’Iberville turned back home across Brooklyn Bay before continuing his journey downriver to Paterson where he met Governor Jonathan Trumbull for advice about how best to proceed inland beyond Monmouth Junction (today's Vineland). Trumbull recommended that d’Iberville cross over Monmouth Lake into Pennsylvania rather than continue downstream through what would become eastern Jersey – an action that led eventually to la Salle's famous Discovery Expedition which explored much central Northeast America between 1710 and 1715." Aftermath: Partially due to dense woods coverimg parts ot NJ & PA w/o sunlight being able t grow ferns (& other plants), few trees stood o foot deep n NEW BRUNSWICK saw only 2 treefords n HARDWOODS spanned entire river wid 4 ft high branches

Here are some key moments in New Brunswick's rich history: 1664: The first permanent settlers arrive in what would become known as "New Brunswick" on Jan. 1st, 1664 by ship from Willemstad, Curaçao under Hendrick Hudson with 101 men led by Captain Abraham de Vriest….This area now includes parts of Trenton Township (northwest corner), Elizabethtown Township (east side), South Hunterdon Township (southwest corner) and East Arlington Township ( southwest corner). 1781: When British troops invade New Netherland and capture Fort George on Long Island on July 9th, 1781, many residents flee to nearby Upper Canada where they join forces with General John Graves Simcoe’s forces against the Americans. As result of this battle leading up to Confederation on Oct 3rd, 1791; all Natives were forced out OF NEW BRUNSWICK AND ALL OF UPPER CANADA FOR GOOD! This event forever changed how people viewed their new neighbour…..In total over 2 million natives were displaced during this timeframe……..Many people left because they didn't want any part Of English rule…..The first school opened in Trenton on December 8th – taught by Revd Dr Samuel Adams….A signer at the signing ceremony was Revd Dr James Mohawk…..In fact all 7 members Of The First Provincial Congress happened To Be From Trenton!!!!! When Queen Victoria assumed control Of Canada On January 1st 1867; she appointed Reverend Dr James Mohawk To be her Commissioner For Indian Affairs!!!!!! This meant thatNEW BRUNSWICK WAS NOW AN INDIAN COUNTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
