Coffee first came to Atlantic City in the early 1800s. The first coffee shop in town was opened by Nicholas French in 1824. Coffee became a popular social drink and many businesses began importing coffee from Africa, Europe, and Asia. By the 1920s, some of the most famous coffee shops in Atlantic City were The Cafe on Market Street and Dutch Bros. Coffee on Route 30. In 1949, Dutch Bros., which was then known as Dutch Bros. Coffee Shop, moved to its current location at Boardwalk Hall across from Penn's Landing. The original Dutch Bros.' sign still hangs outside the business today. In 1951,Dutch Bros.' successor company Dutch Cocoa Company merged with other regional coffee companies to form American Coffee Corporation (ABC). ABC began marketing roasted beans direct to cafes and restaurants throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania under three brand names: Dunkin' Donuts, Starbucks, and Peet's Coffee Department store brands. The first Starbucks store opened in 1984 in a brick building on Main Street near Neptune Avenue in Asbury Park Beach Township (now part of Monmouth County). At that time Starbucks was just starting out as a small mom-and-pop operation selling single origin espresso drinks with foam only for $1 per cup or less than any other local café chain at that time. Over time they grew into one of America’s leading cupcake/coffee chains with over 1200 stores across 36 states worldwide by 2000 Starbucks closed their final retail locations globally including all US stores except Seattle on December 15th 2018 citing competition from Amazon’s Amazon Web Services As of 2019 there are over 24000 Starbucks locations open around the world

In the year 1907, Atlantic City was founded as a small town on the Jersey Shore. It quickly became an important commercial and social center for New Jersey. The city's unique architecture and history have made it one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. Atlantic City's origins can be traced back to 1831 when two men, Nicholas Seaway and John Stevens, developed a business plan to establish a seaport on Long Island Sound. The project failed but it served as inspiration for another group of entrepreneurs, led by George Washington Bridge Company president David Hackett Jones, to begin development of what would become known as Atlantic City. The first permanent residents of Atlantic City were residents of Point Pleasant Beach in Monmouth County who arrived in 1838 under the leadership of Governor Robert Morris. By 1840, more than 100 people had moved to what is now Atlantic City from points eastward including Middlesex County and Cape May County. At first, the town consisted of just a few fishermen’s coves and beach houses. However, over time Atlantic City grew into one of the leading commercial centers in New Jersey due to its strategic location between Philadelphia and Newark (the state capital at that time). In addition, its lax regulation by local authorities helped create an environment where businesses could flourish without fear of government interference. As American industry boomed during World War I, Atlantic City continued to prosper thanks to its tight regulations regarding alcohol sales and gambling dens which kept crime at bay while enabling businesses such as munitions production plants and shipyards to succeed. However, with technological advancements came increased security concerns which led to stricter law enforcement after Prohibition was repealed in 1933 cocaine smuggling operations began legalizing gambling across the border into Pennsylvania set off a race-to-the-bottom among major US cities for control over this lucrative black market sector . Overall these factors contributed towards major economic decline beginning in 1925 before culminating with bankruptcy in 1930 – leaving Atlantica behind as one of New Jersey's poorest towns ever . Despite this setbacks however; by 1941 Atlantica had recovered sufficiently enough that it was selected for inclusion within Great Britain's Empire Defining Trade Region program - becoming one of only 10 municipalities nationally chosen pursuant to that initiative based on economic potential
