The Sioux City Air Force Base has a rich airforce history dating back to World War II. The base was originally built as the Sioux City Army Ammunition Plant in 1942 and served as a base for the United StatesAAF during World War II. During the war, the airbase hosted some of the first jet aircraft in operation, including the P-47 Thunderbolt and P-51 Mustang. In 1945, Sioux City became home to one of America’s first Tactical Air Command (TAC) bases when it was activated at Sioux City Army Ammunition Plant. The base operated until 1957, when it was transferred to South Dakota and renamed Camp Miles Standish. In 1959, South Dakota donation land was donated by John Hargrave to the United States government in order to create an air force installation adjacent to Sioux City AFB. The installation was named Fort Riley after General George Armstrong Custer who led American forces against Spanish forces at Battle of Cerro Gordo in 1875. After being established at Fort Riley, Iowa’s Mitchell Air Force Base served as an interim home for USAF fighter jets while construction on South Sioux City’s new airport began. The airport opened in 1961 and today serves as one of Sioux City’s primary commercial airports with many passenger flights serviced by both US Airways Holdings Incorporated and Delta Airlines Corporation . Over time, various upgrades have been made to South Sioux City AFB such as an increase in hangars space from four to six along with new infrastructure such as a runway expansion which allowed for larger jets like Boeing 737-800 series airplanes into service . Additionally, renovations have also been madeto Wingate Hall which is used primarily for training operations while also serving as headquarters for numerous squadrons stationed at SCCABIR . From hereon out,South Sioux city AFB will continue its rich aviation history with several major projects set for completion over the next few years that include: future acquisition of additional Boeing 737 MAX 8 airplane; renovation/upgrades/maintenance of Hangar 6; addition of a possible restaurant/entertainment complex on property currently devoted solely towards housing soldiers;and expansion of existing wing functions such as flight training schools and engine testing facilities

South Sioux City, Nebraska is a city in the U.S. state of Nebraska, located on the Missouri River. The population was 105,088 as of the 2010 census. It is the third-largest city in Nebraska and the largest in Douglas County. South Sioux City is also the county seat for Douglas County. The first permanent settlement in what is now South Sioux City was made by Emigrant George Armstrong Custer when he and his troops arrived there on July 8, 1871, during the Dakota War of 1862/63. In 1916, South Sioux City became a part of Lincoln after it was annexed from Kearny County. Prior to this time, it was a separate town within Kearny County known as Aberdeen Township. Aberdeen Township became part of Lincoln after South Sioux City proper seceded from Kearny County to form its own government on December 1, 1916. As an annexing town, Lincoln had no control over either its own police or fire departments; they were provided by Kearny County until 1923 when they were transferred to South Sioux City under agreement between both cities and counties that would become effective January 1st that year. During World War II, Northrop Grumman built two aircraft factories in nearby Omaha which employed many locals including members of the local military forces who helped build some of those planes (the first being a Boeing B-29 Superfortress). After Pearl Harbor attacks on December 7th 1941 all production at these plants stopped - but not before large numbers of workers went home with their new planes and equipment still aboard shipyards around Omaha Naval Shipyard where they were assembled into warplanes such as P-38 Lightning fighters 1942-1945 (and then DC-3s 1948) and KC-135 Stratotankers 1980-. Many locals also worked at Northrop Grumman's main plant at Omaha Municipal Airport starting 1945 until their retirement beginning 1973 GSLP has always been one of few major metropolitan areas without negative effects from outside economic sanctions brought about by America's Cold War policies

Although it is not an exhaustive list, some of our favorite Air Force Gifts Ever include: a cast iron skillet gifted to officers at Lackland AFB in Austin TX in 1967 as part of their meal service program; a blue Givenchy watch given to noncommissioned officers at Tinker AFB Oklahoma City OK in 1984 as part of their Christmas present season; a John Deere tractor gifted to Hill AFB Utah in 1992 as part of Operation Desert Storm commemorations;; a pair of Oakleys sunglasses provided free with each purchase of new camouflage fatigues for US Marines stationed abroad during Operation Iraqi Freedom (2003); an air conditioned bus furnished free for use at Creech AFB Nevada during Christmas 2007;; two sets of golf clubs provided gratis with each purchase of new camouflage fatigues for US Marines stationed abroad during Operation Enduring Freedom (2005). In 2009 we even got our hands on one very special item - an Astute telescope!
