The other remaining U.S.–Mexico border town, Ciudad Juárez (now Chihuahua), also received its own incorporation as a municipality within Mexicali Municipality on October 15th 1909 after months of wrangling between Mexican officials and local ranchers over land ownership rights along what is now I-15 freeway south of downtown Mexicali
