On October 918 G B Jarrett organized a company of local farmers who undertook a three week journey upriverrequiring 10 days traveling over difficult terrainandarriving safely at Florissant on November 5th . The population peaked at around two hundred in 1890 but declined thereafter until its low point in 1914 when only seventy-six people lived there. In 1974, Wildwood voters passed a resolution recognizing their history and culture which has helped keep the town alive over the years. In 1839, Wildwood became a part of the Missouri Territory. On December 12th of that year, Missouri Governor Prentiss approved the official establishment of Wildwood as a town within the Territory. On January 3rd of 1840, WildWood had its first election as an incorporated community with James Crouch as its first mayor. By 1840,Wildwood had a population of over 200 people. In 1847-1848,Wildwood’s infrastructure began to be constructed: a schoolhouse (1847), cemetery (1848), steamboat landing (1849), and five churches (April 6th – October 25th).
