Webster Groves is a city in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 12,839 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield–St. Louis metropolitan area. The community was founded by John Webster and his wife Anna on a site near what is now Springfield Township in 1827. In 1860, John Webster donated land to the town; it would later be named after him and his wife. John Webster's grandson, also called John Webster, became the first mayor of Springfield in 1885. The family farm continued to be run until 1957 when it was sold to a group of investors who developed it into an agricultural center known for corn-based products and other vegetables. In 1907, President Theodore Roosevelt visited Springfield while he was touring the Western Plains states before leaving for New York City for his inauguration as president that year. He stopped at the edge of town where he were given a tour of the new city hall and built number 6 on Main Street as a model for future cities throughout America which kept that building until 1959 when it was destroyed by fire

Grant's Vice Presidential Candidate in 1868-1872 and as Secretary of War under Abraham Lincoln. The community developed around a series of large cotton plantations that were run by General Polk's family from 1865 to 1880.
