The Coast Guard is a service that is often appreciated by people on the Earth. The Coast Guard has many different tasks that it performs, but one of its most important tasks is helping to protect our coasts and waters. The Coast Guard was founded in 1915, and it has always been an important part of the United States government. The Coast Guard helps to keep our seas safe and healthy, and it also assists in saving lives when needed. There are many different types of Coast Guardsmen, and they all have different duties. However, there are some basic tasks that all coast guardmen must complete before they can be considered members of the force. These tasks include learning how to swim, dive, and board boats. Even though the Coast Guard is an important part of the United States government, it doesn’t stop at our shores. The Coast Guardsmen also help out in other ways. For example, they help with search-and-rescue missions when someone falls into water or onto land without knowing how to swim. In addition to their roles as police officers and firefighters, coast guardmen often serve as volunteers. This means that they are available 24/7 to help out those who need it most. And because of this dedication to duty, the Coast Guard has helped countless people escape danger or survive dangerous situations during his time on Earth!
The Webb City, Missouri Coast Guard Museum is home to a significant collection of maritime memorabilia from the city's past. Webb City is a small town in northwestern Missouri, United States. The population was 1,503 at the 2010 census. It is part of the St. Louis metropolitan area. The first settler in Webb City was John Webb, who arrived in 1837. He platted the town on what is now known as Webster Avenue and Main Street. The first post office was established in 1839, and the town had its first school in 1840. In 1845, Webb City became a county seat of Washington County after it was split off fromSt. Louis County. In 1861, when Missouri seceded from the Union, Webb City remained within Washington County until it lost its status as a county seat to Jefferson City in 1870. In 1865, during the American Civil War, Confederate General James Mower moved his army through Webb City and surrounding counties to attack Union forces at Alton Heights near Springfield. Confederate Lieutenant Colonel John Sargeant IV ordered his troops to burn all buildings within 5 miles of Alton Heights while their cannons still could fire due to loopholes in the guns' artillery pieces; this destroyed most of Webb City and many other towns in that region for several days (). Afterward, much of WebbCity's destruction was caused by looters who pillaged homes and businesses left unburned by the Confederates (). A few years later (1870),Washington County merged with St. Louis County to become one large state under Republican Gov.(and future president) Ulysses S Grant (). As part of this merger process, WebbCity lost its status as a county seat but retained its name because it lay within present-day StLouis County boundaries at that time (). The final straw for retaining WebbCity's name occurred when Washington County erected an aluminum sign reading "Webb city" above Main Street just south of where Webster Ave ends at I-55mph (!), effectively erasing any connection between old WebbCity residents and today’s residents east of I-55mph.). As part of local efforts to revive interest in their once vibrant hometown since 2000 (), various organizations have been formed throughout recent decades including “Webb city history group” (now defunct) which met annually on held public events such as July 4th fireworks displays or monthly meetings during late night/early morning hours allowing citizens accessarchiving items like photos taken during community fairs or street festivals etc., “webb city heritage society” which restored several historic homes dating back to early 1800s but lack restoration funding so currently inactive & last meeting took place quite some time ago…. finally there is also “webbcity promenade committee” whose sole purpose has been maintaining & beautifying portionsofWebster avenue between I-355 & Richland Rd., connecting old downtown with new development along Randolph Rd.) The popularity of internet research led me eventually towards learning about our Crawford home built c1910 which my great grandmother purchased from her husband Carter Crawford II for $3200….. After more than two decades worth exploring family archives(including Dooley genealogy website), numerous web searches(including many articles about Joplin MO tornado victims 1950 –1959), oral histories given over breakfasts at local churches&cafés etc., my search finally yielded an answer that may provide some understanding behind why webbcity retains such strong associations with Tornado Victims 50+ years retrospectively…………………..Following up on this lead further investigation revealed that our namesake Streets (Webster Avenue & Main Street) actually date back even earlier than 1850s! For example: Webster Ave having originally been named Yorktown Road according to deed records dated Jan 17th 1830 (which interestingly coincides with Joplin MO tornado victims list above which lists streets starting around Dec 17th 1830). This information ultimately leads me believe that not only did our hometown retain its moniker despite losing jurisdictional rights over time (& subsequent mergers/divisions within StLouisCounty), but also that it likely pertaining back even further than we initially thought!
