From the beginning, small batch coffee was a popular drink in Springfield. The first coffee shop in Springfield opened in 1927, and since then, there have been numerous coffee shops and cafes that have served up small batches of espresso and cappuccino. One of the earliest cafe's to serve small batch coffee was Dooley's Coffee House, which operated from 1928-1969. Dooley's featured a variety of drinks including vanilla milk with cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice; hot chocolate with marshmallows; and Dutch oven coffee with bacon or sausage on top. Over time, other smaller businesses began to open up in Springfield catering to the demand for small batch coffee. In 1969, Sprout Coffee opened its first location in the city center. Sprout featured a wide range of drinks including pour overs (coffee extenders made from flour, sugar and water), pastries such as croissants and donuts, sandwiches including ham & cheese or pepperoni&gouda on white breads (made with 100% whole wheat flour), macaroni salads (with multiple layers of pasta), pizza doughnuts (with flavored cream cheese icing) and more. Today, many people recognize the name "Sprout" because they've tasted their famous products - such as their pumpkin spice latte - at one of their locations. Additionally,sprouts is often frequented by diners for breakfast because they offer oatmeal, eggs benedict or scrambles made with pork belly or black beans instead of cereal or toast.

Small batch coffee is a term used to describe coffee that has been made in small batches, typically under the supervision of a roastmaster. Small batch coffee is often more flavorful and intense than regular coffee, and can be more difficult to find. The first smallbatch coffee was brewed in 1978 by Joe Bonamassa at his home brewery in Memphis, Tennessee. Between 1978 and 1984, two other small breweries formed cooperatives and began producing small batch coffee: Blue Bottle Coffee Company in Berkeley, California and Funky Bongo Coffee Cooperative in San Francisco. The popularity of smallbatch coffee led to its spread throughout the world. In 2012, Starbucks rolled out their ownsmall batch program called Reserve Roasts whichodded down any beans that were not up to par with their regular production. This allowed customers who preferred a certain level of flavor profile or sweetness to have access to these roasts without having to switch brands. Since then, many other companies have followed suit and begun offering their ownsmall batch programs as well.

Springfield was founded by a group of farmers in 1839 as a small farming community on the east side of the Missouri River. The town prospered for many years, but during the 19th century it experienced several significant growth spurts. In 1851, Springfield became an incorporated city and soon became one of the most important economic hubs in the Midwest. The city's success throughout its history was due to its location on both sides of the river – it was able to provide essential transportation links between eastern Illinois and western Missouri, and also attracted high-quality manufacturing jobs. The 20th century saw more dramatic changes to Springfield than any other American city. In 1955, when Interstate 65 bypassed Springfield completely, the city lost much of its commercial and social significance. However, over time Springfield has regained some Lost Highway status as a vibrant cultural center that attracts major events such as Broadway shows and art exhibitions.

Springfield was founded in 1836 by John C. Frémont and his family. The city was named after General and President James K. Polk, who had made an aggressive speech in Springfield on October 14, 1835 while visiting the area. In 1840, the Missouri legislature passed a bill creating a Territorial government for the Shawnee Nation of Indians in present-day Kansas City. Springfield became part of this new government, and its first mayor was John A. Campbell. In 1847, a group of settlers from Illinois arrived in Springfield to claim land grants from the Ulysses S. Grant administration. This group included Isaac Brockman and his brother Ebenezer Brockman Sr., as well as Daniel Webster and other United States senators from New York State at that time. The brothers soon began building homes in what is now the old city limits of Springfield; they were joined by other settlers over time and built up a large community which continued to grow until it reached its current size today. The railroad came to Springfield in 1861; it became one of the leading transportation corridors in Midwest America at that time. The town experienced rapid growth during the 19th century; many famous people lived or worked here including Abraham Lincoln, Franklin D Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson and more recently Jay Leno, Bill Maher and Neil Patrick Harris among many others
