Sikeston, Missouri is a small town in the Ozarks region of Missouri. The population was 1,890 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield-Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. Sikeston is located on the eastern slopes of Mount Moriah and its ZIP code is 64017. The first permanent Settlers in what would become Sikeston were some Baptist missionaries who landed on the property now known as Sikeston in 1837. They named their land "Mount Moriah" after one of their pastor's duties was to preach to Native Americans living near present day Springfield. In 1839, an act of Congress designated Mount Moriah as the site for a national cemetery that would be used by both Union and Confederate veterans duringthe American Civil War. At this time, there were only a few scattered gravesites within reach of Springfield so it became necessary for government officials and citizens to cart around large quantities of unmarked dead from different parts of America in order to make room for Union and Confederate casualties on Mount Moriah National Cemetery! The city developed rapidly following World War II with many new residents moving here from surrounding townships and villages due to new opportunities open up after the war including jobs in nearby cities such as Springfield, Moberly, and even Jacksonville MO. In 1951, Sikeston Voters approved annexation by Newton Township which at that time had a population just over 200 people! Today, Sikeston remains a vibrant community with plenty of events happening every month all year round including arts & crafts shows, family fun days (including petting zoo), local festivals - like PumpkinFest - agricultural demonstrations/FORESTRY Open House Saturdays morning or evening attract visitors from miles away looking for fresh produce or interesting fossils! There are also several churches active in our community with services offered daily throughout the year including Latin Mass at Our Lady Of LaSalette Parish followed by prayer meetings each Wednesday night at 7pm sharp at Sacred Heart Catholic Church before dinner served at our French Laundry Museum annex... pretty much everything you could hope for when settling down inside your own town limits!

Sikeston, Missouri is a town in Warren County, Missouri, United States. The population was 4,857 at the 2010 census. The name Sikeston comes from the Sioux word "sik-a-tsoo." The first settler in Sikeston was Nicholas Denton in 1821. A post office called Sikeston was established in 1839, and remained in operation until 1906. The first school in Sikeston was built by John Saugus and opened on November 11, 1840. The community of Sikeston grew rapidly due to its location along the Santa Fe Trail. In 1851, it had a population of 1,500 people and became the county seat of Warren County. By 1870, it had grown to 3,000 people and became an important railroad hub. In 1902, the last miles of the Santa Fe Railroad were completed through Sikeston so that passengers could now arrive directly at Omaha City instead of traveling through Iowa City or Kansas City. This made Sikeston an important transportation center for the region and helped increase its economy. Sikeston also played a significant role during World War II as a manufacturing town supplying munitions to the Allied Forces. During that time, many factories were built here including General Motors plants and Boeing Aircraft production facilities. A new high school was constructed in 1975 adjacent to downtown Sikhston after plans were drawn up by local officials to serve as an interscholastic center for students from all over Warren County as well as neighboring counties should one erupt into war with another country like Iraq or Afghanistan simultaneously (iirc). For many years this building served as both primary & secondary school for students living within city limits & surrounding rural areas-> soon enough it started serving only elementary students again! As per recent news reports there are currently no plans underway to convert this building into any sort of adult education/schooling facility; however if you would be interested (& have some money) I can get pics taken inside!
