Raymore is a small town in southern Missouri, about 25 miles northeast of the city of Springfield. The population was 1,362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield-area Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Raymore post office was founded in 1881, and operated until it closed on August 15, 1966. Raymore's economy primarily revolves around agriculture and ranching. There are two large cotton fields in town: one near North Broadway and the other just east of Highway 54 south of town. Some light manufacturing takes place here as well, including some for local consumption by residents who produce their own food. The most significant landmark in Raymore is its Methodist church—the first Greek Revival structure built in the area. The original sanctuary was dedicated on October 20, 1892; it remains an important cultural and religious center for many people in the community today.

Raymore was a town in eastern Missouri, United States, until it merged with nearby Haleyville in 1907. The towns were named for the brothers Ray and Maurice ray, who operated a general store there from 1867 to 1871. In 1887, the Missouri legislature renamed the towns after President James K. Polk. In 1907, they were again renamed after General George B. McClellan – one of the commanders of the Union army during the American Civil War – and his wife Julia Lawless McCulloch-McClellan. General McClellan had been born in nearby Mount Pleasant and grew up near here. The population of Raymore was 2,953 as of 2000; it had shrunk to 1,898 by 2007 according to US census data. Raymore was first settled in the early 1800s by pioneers from Kentucky. The town was named for General James K. Ray, an American military leader during the Mexican-American War. In 1834, a post office was founded in Raymore and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1906. In 1881, a sawmill and gristmill were built in Raymore and continued to operate until they were abandoned in 1922. A few years later, a grocery store and blacksmith shop were opened in Raymore and served as the primary center of community life until they closed also in 1922.
