Grandview, Missouri is a small town in Clay County, Missouri, United States. The population was 903 at the 2010 census. The community is part of the St. Louis metropolitan area. Grandview was founded in 1836 by John Tilton and his wife Hannah Cook as a farmstead on the east side of what is now Columbia Avenue. In 1892, it became a city with a population of 5,000 people. It lost its status as a city after Grandview's annexation by St. Louis in 2000. The first settler in what is now Grandview was John Tilton who arrived there around 1836. At first he only lived on the farmstead but soon started to build some houses and set up shop himself as an auctioneer and store owner. He also helped establish the post office which later became known as Grandview City Hall (now called Moberly Municipal Building). In 1892, when Grandview became a city, ammonium nitrate deficiency led to economic decline for many residents which caused them to leave the area for other parts of Missouri or Illinois wherenitrate could be bought easily from processors.. In 2002, when St., Louis annexed parts of Clay County including rural areas such as Grande View and Clear Creek like much of southern Clay County that had been agricultural for centuries; all citizens within these new boundaries were required to obtain cityhood status or face annexation themselves according to then-St., Louis Mayor Francis Slay’s plan called “A Better Way To Govern Our Cities” program aimed at achieving more effective government through incorporation rather than via mergers and acquisitions (MBA). As part of this process, residents within rural areas were asked to submit proposals on how they would like their local governments organized so that their voice would be heard more effectively within their communities—a proposal thatgrandVIEW accepted following public hearings in November 2002. Since2002 several changes have taken place at City Hall with mayor Slay continuing to play an important role presiding over meetings and approving ordinances while also working closely with committee members who provide input on daily operations throughout the municipality Today we live in an exciting time where our mayor has continued her commitment towards providing better services & greater transparency thru ordinance passage/amendments while still listening attentively &citizen Input! Grandview was platted in 1835, and named for Grand View Hill, which is located in the city. The post office at Grandview was first established in 1836. In 1865, the city of Grandview became a county seat of Audrain County. In 1870, the population of Grandview had reached 10,000 people. The County Courthouse and jail were built in 1875-77. On July 1, 1907, the town of Grandview merged into Audrain County.
