Wright donated a cannon to the town of Grain Valley as a symbol of American might. In 1924, General George Custer Battlefield Park was dedicated to honor America's most famous casualty during World War I.
Grain Valley is a small town in Jackson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,057 at the 2010 census. Grain Valley is located on the banks of the Saline River. The first settlers in Grain Valley were Levi Strauss and Sons who arrived in 1836. Jacob Strauss started a flour mill in 1839 and his son Julius later ran it until 1906. In 1907, John A Smith opened a grocery and general store in Grain Valley which became known as "The Smith Store". In 1920, Harry S Lunde purchased The Smith Store and changed its name to Lunde's Grocery & groceries. In 1951, Harry S Lunde's grandson Edward J Lunde took over ownership of the store and kept it until his death in 1984. After Edward J Lunde's death, the store passed into the hands of his three daughters: Kathleen L., Tricia K., and Peggy Boggs (the last daughter also ran it for many years). In 1992, local businessman Bruce Canfield bought Lundes Grocery from Tricia K Bundick. Canfield renovated the building and reopened it as The GrainValley Golf Club which continues to serve as an important part of local community life today. Today, Grain Valley features a variety of businesses including two churches (St John's Lutheran Church & Pioneer Baptist Church), a post office (established in 1893), several restaurants/cafés/bars/, one grain elevator (#6), two schools (Jackson County High School & Old Mill Elementary School), two parks (Grainvale Park & Pleasant Hill Park) as well as several residential properties including one homeowning family that has lived there continuously since 1827.

Grain Valley is a small town located in southern Missouri, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. Grain Valley is part of the Springfield metropolitan area. It is located on the east side of the James River, about 15 miles northeast of Springfield and 25 miles northwest of St. Louis. The first Europeans to visit what is now Grain Valley were Frenchmen who landed there in 1672 during their journey from Quebec to Illinois. They named the area for a valley they had seen near present-day Carbondale, Illinois. In 1759, surveyors in Company D surveyed the land that would become Grain Valley and named it after Captain John Nye's farmstead on the east bank of the James River just south of modern day Grain Valley. The first house built in what is now Grain Valley was called "Nye's House" and stood on what is now Main Street between Easton Avenue and Read Road. In 1815 Major General Nicholas Vandal visited this region and reported back that he found no confirmed Indian sites or villages within 100 miles of his headquarters at Cairo, Missouri but did find many abandoned huts near present day Carbondale, Illinois where he believed some refugees from Battle Creek had taken shelter after being driven out by General Anthony Wayne's forces during the War of 1812. In 1827 Colonel Elijah Lovejoy erected a sawmill here which became one of most important enterprises in grain production in this region until it closed its doors in 1922 due to World War I economic stresses. A few years later an oil well was discovered here and soon mills were built to process this new fuel source; however these operations too ceased operation following World War II when production soared due to increased demand from those living around Springfield because transportation costs became prohibitively expensive for bringing goods into that city center overland through farmland situated more than 20 miles northward including Carbondale whereupon local farmers began producing food for themselves rather than shipping their produce into town for processing purposes Prior to World War II, grain production occurred mainly along Wabash River corridor which includedpresent day White Cloud Township as well as several other villages located along river banks such as Sooamish Landing immediately upstream from today's Grain Valleys primary manufacturing district while elsewhere large fields providing feedstock remained idle while people continued farming using traditional methods After America entered World war ii prices plummeted resulting in mass resettlement across Midwest with millions lost jobs as farmers lost access to markets create food insecurity . The land was donated by the government of Missouri to a group of farmers in order to provide them with a farmstead and water supply. The original settlers were primarily from Pennsylvania, but some came from Ohio and other states as well. By 1922, the population of Grain Valley had grown to over 100 residents.
