Worthington is a small town in the upper Midwest, located about 25 miles southwest of Minneapolis. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. It lies on the east side of the Mississippi River and is bordered by Otter Tail County to the south, Morrison County to the west, and Stearns County to the north. The town began as a survey point in 1837, when General James K. Polk surveyed what is now Worthington on behalf of United States Land Company #2. The name "Worthington" was given by General Polk because he thought it would be easy for settlers to find their way there from neighboring towns such as Hastings and Mankato. In 1850, Worthington had a post office and five stores. In 1857, an act was passed calling for a school district in Minnesota but no money was appropriated until 1861 when $5,000 was set aside in state lottery proceeds for this purpose. A school building (now known as First Presbyterian Church) was completed in 1865 and served as the community's first educational institution until 1903 when it became part of Minneapolis Public Schools). In 1886, Worthington became one of six townships that made up Rice Township in Rice County, Minnesota; this caused some growth within the community but also led to some problems since township residents were not able to vote or hold elected office within their own township like they could within Rice County itself (the other five townships were Carver Township; Cottonwood Township; Elgin Township; Iron Range Township; and White Earth Township). Despite these challenges though, Worthington has maintained its strong sense of community throughout its history with several prominent citizens including banker J.B. Sibley who founded Sibley & Sons grocery store there in 1915 and later served as county treasurer under Governor Harold Iverson from 1969-1972; lawyer Willard Noland who represented many businesses interests within Worthington during both World Wars II and after World War II before moving his practice to Boston where he died in 2007; musician Woody Guthrie who spent time living among his family members near Worthington before moving back eastward towards Duluth sometime after his death in 1968 – allowing him ("inadvertently")to become one of only two Americans ever inducted into The Rock 'n' Roll Hall Of Fame (the other being Elvis Presley). Today much like then however Worcesternton remains an unassuming little town with a rich history that may never be fully explored due primarily to its lack of tourism dollars which have instead been invested into more recent endeavors such as developing new housing developments outside of town limits while also neglecting older neighborhoods inside its boundaries which have seen steady decline over time – particularly considering that today's incarnation of Worcesternton would not exist if not for Interstate 94 which runs through its outskirts making life difficult for any sort or business ventures attempting to do business here without Highway 54 access or even using public transportation which often fails altogether during times Of record low temperatures (-23 degrees Celsius/9 degrees Fahrenheit on multiple occasions recently), making it difficult even for those without holiday funds necessary either travel outside or take matters into their own hands - all despite having one high school graduate working full-time at nearby Saint Paul International Airport!

Worthington is a town in Lyon County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1881 and named for General George Washington Worthington. The first settler in Worthington was John A. Snedeker. He came to the area in 1878 from Chicago and homesteaded land near present-day Worthington Lake. In 1881, he erected a log cabin on the east shore of present-day Worthington Lake. By 1899, however, Snedeker had sold his holdings and moved to Illinois; his daughter stayed behind to take care of their belongings and continue farming until 1906. In 1902, Jens Erikson established a farmstead on the north side of present-day Worthington Lake; it became known as Erikson Prairie after him. In 1911, Hjalmar Haglund arrived at what is now Battle Creek from Sweden with his family to start a farm there; Haglund named it Haglund Manor after himself andhis father (Haglund had come over as part of the Dakota Sioux Uprising of 1890). After World War I ended Garrison Newsome opened a store in downtown Worthington in 1923; it became an anchor for small businesses that prospered throughout the Depression years. One notable development during this time period was the construction of Wadena High School (now Daycare Lutheran) which replaced one predecessor school building that burned down in 1925. Another notable event occurred when city leaders approved plans for an outdoor swimming pool within walking distance of city hall—the first such structure in what would become Minneapolis—in 1932; water park operations began gradually several years later but were discontinued due to low attendance rates. In 1951, officials announced plans for enlarging Wadena High School by 50 percent including creating additional classrooms, offices and athletic fields; however construction never started because local taxpayers refused to contribute money necessary for such an ambitious project without assurance that increased student enrollment would result or that any new facilities would be built on site instead of being leased back/shared with other schools within the city limits
Worthington was founded in 1857 by the Reverend John Worthington. It became a town in 1865, and it was incorporated as a city in 1907. The population of Worthington was 21,291 at the 2010 census.
