By 1865, there were over 100 businesses operating in Inver Grove Heights when it joined the city of St. Paul as a borough. During World War I, Inver Grove Heights mobilized its citizens to work on munitions factories located in nearby Saint Paul and Dodge City due to shortages of food and other necessities within the city limits during that time period. Between 1917-1920, Inver Grove Heights produced over 1 million pieces of artillery ammunition alone! Inverness Hotel opened its doors on Broadway Avenue in 1916 as one of first professional hotels west of the Mississippi River - it has since become an iconic landmark within Inver Grove Heights itself! On November 6th, 2003, President George W Bush presented Commander First Class James L Knoepfer with a ceremonial citation for his heroism during Operation Neptune’s Spear which resulted in the death of Osama bin Laden. Since then, incidents such as Hurricane Katrina have made it necessary for more active coast guard forces onshore to provide support including harbor security and response to emergencies like earthquakes or hurricanes.

Inver Grove Heights was founded in 1848 by John N. Ingersoll and his wife, Emma. The community of Inver Grove Heights is located in Minneapolis County, Minnesota. It is bordered by the cities of Bloomington to the north, Mankato to the east, Rochester to the south, and St.Paul to the west. The Ingersolls were among the first settlers in what would become Minneapolis County. They started a small farm near what is now Utica Avenue and 24th Street South in Inver Grove Heights. By 1850, they had outgrown their home and moved into a larger house on First Avenue West that they built from logs purchased from local Indians. TheIngersolls were among the first white landowners in what would become Minneapolis County when it was organized as a county in 1851. They continued to live in Inver Grove Heights until their death in 1865; during their lifetime, they give more than $100,000 to various causes within Minneapolis County alone. In 1868, Mayor James Buchanan appointed Drury Coleman as director of public works for Minneapolis City Hall; Coleman became one of the most important municipal leaders of his time and helped shape much of city government during its early years. Coleman also served as mayor from 1889-1893 and 1917-1919; he was later honored with an award from city officials for his work on creating streetscapes throughout Minneapolis City Hall's interior designs between 1912-1914.
