The company became part of the 6th Minnesota Infantry Regiment which served in World War I under General Pershing. On December 16, 1919, when World War II began, residents of Hastings raised money through Pledge Day to purchase three tanks from General Motors Corporation for $2 per tank. Hastings, Minnesota is a town in the Canadian province of Manitoba. The population was 1,564 at the 2006 census. It is located on the east side of the Missouri River near its mouth on Hudson Bay. It has an area of 24 square miles (60 km2). Hastings was founded in 1881 by the Dutch fur traders Hendrik Hammel and Cornelis Stuyvesant as a trading post between Winnipeg and Fort Garry on the Red River. The original name for Hastings was "Turtle Bay." The nearby communities of Moose Jaw and Regina formed new settlements around Hastings in 1903 and 1906 respectively, while still under British rule. In 1908, when Canada became a republic, Hastings became part of Manitoba. The town's first mayor was J.C. Boyle who served from 1912 to 1916; his successor, HJ Swanner served from 1916 to 1932. In 1934 it amalgamated with nearby Moose Jaw to form the city of Moose Jaw & Hastings which continued to operate as an independent municipality until 1971 when it merged with Winnipeg into one single municipality
Hastings was founded in 1854 by Capt. George Hastings and his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Purdy Hastings. In 1865, the City of Hastings was organized with a population of about 50 people. The first local school was built in 1870 and the first church also opened in that year. By 1915, there were over 100 people living in Hastings and its environs. The post office was established at Hastings in 1875 and remained open until it closed in 1967. The city experienced significant growth from the early 1800s until the 1940s when it contracted during World War II due to an large influx of soldiers and their families who came through the town looking for work or housing. Afterward, Hastings reverted back to its small size until the late 1990s when it began to experience significant gentrification which has led to increased development around the downtown area as well as new retail space, restaurants, and other businesses being opened along Interstate 94.
