Brooklyn Park is a town in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 4,438 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Rochester–New York Metropolitan Area. Brooklyn Park was founded in 1881 by Danish immigrants who were seeking land north of Minneapolis. The first settlers were farmers and their families who arrived around 1881. Over time, the community grew as a result of its location within easy access to transportation and businesses in downtown Rochester and New York City. In 1907, Brooklyn Park became a city and lost its rural feel; however, it retained some of its Danish heritage. In 1916, the borough of Brooklyn Park annexed adjacent villages of Mayfair and Greenfield Township to become one municipality with a population of 10,811 people. That year saw the opening of what would later be known as The Brooklyn Park Mall which served as an important shopping center for residents in both towns until it closed in 1990. -During World War II: On July 6th 1942, American troops invaded Nazi Germany through Luxembourg; many soldiers from Brooklyn Park fought on that day including Sgt John Pohl (USMC), age 26 at the time who would go on to die during Operation Market Garden .
