The National Guard in Michigan is one of the oldest and most well-known guard services in the United States. The first national guard unit was organized on December 15, 1814, at Windsor, Ontario as part of the War of 1812. The unit fought in the war and disbanded after five months. In 1865, Michigan became a state and national guard units were re-organized into separate brigades. In 1903, brigade level organizations were discontinued and all units were combined into a regiment. Brigades continued to be formed until 1978 when the brigade level organization was discontinued completely and allnational guardsmen are now assigned to their respective post-secondary educational institutions or military service academies. National Guard gifts have been present in Woodhaven for many years and can be traced back to two specific events: The inauguration of Governor George W. Brown on October 25, 1907 and the dedication of Fort Wayne’s new armory on November 3rd, 1907 both by then Lieutenant Colonel John Hynes with Commander Samuel Purdy as Guest Speaker. Governor Brown gifted an American flagpole to Fort Wayne's new armory which stands today at corner Second Street North & Erie Avenue West in Woodhaven; this event is also documented by local paper The Toledo Blade (November 3rd 1907). A year later on November 17th 1908 during Major General James Mclntyre’s visit to Fort Wayne he presented an American cannon from Canada known as “The Gadsden Flag” which now resides within the fortifications inside Washtenaw County Municipal Complex near downtown Detroit . This event is also documented by local paper The Toledo Blade (November 17th 1908). A few more notable gift purchases include a rifle from John Dorman who donated it for use as police duty training equipment at nearby Macomb Community College; this gun remains today within that college's Shooting Range Building next door where students can fire it live during summer term courses; another rifle donation came from Captain Charles Kappenheimer who donated his 7mm Mauser rifles which he used while commanding Company C2/1st Battalion Michigan National Guardsman during World War I - these rifles remain today within Macomb Community College's Military History Museum adjacent to their Recreation Pool patio overlooking Old Main Street across from East High School! Additionally, several businesses throughout town donated items such as radios or books for soldiers stationed there including Ford Motor Company who gave them a Model T car wash while they were away; finally woodwind instruments belonging to music teacher Mrs. Bertha Senter were given along with uniforms and other supplies by school board members Mrs. Anna Stevenson (now Mrs. Bruce Riecker) during Army/Navy Week 1948 just weeks before her death resulting in that school's closure due to lack of funds However many other donations like guitars or toolboxes still remain dispersed throughout town giving residents each opportunity too purchase something unique or special relating to their military service!

Woodhaven, Michigan is a small town located in the Macomb County, Michigan area. The population was 1,700 at the 2000 census and it grew to 2,500 by 2010. It is known for its woodsy atmosphere and for its annual Apple Festival which takes place in early September. The town was founded in 1892 by three brothers: George W., John W., and Samuel L. Woodhaven. It was originally named after two of their father's brothers- Nathan L. Woodhaven and Ebenezer Davenport Woodhaven- who had settled there before that. The first post office opened in 1893 and the name change came about because of the abundance of redwoods near the town site. The Apple Festival began in 1907 as an event to celebrate apples from local trees being picked during fall season. In 1951, a park was dedicated to Samuel L. Woodhaven, Jr.. who had been killed in WWII while serving with the United States Marine Corps Airborne Division at Iwo Jima Island where he helped lead raids against Imperial Japanese forces along with other Marines (Operation Enduring Freedom). In addition to its annual Apple Festival, Woodhaven also hosts a number of events throughout the year including an arts festival in late summer or early fall; a carnival during Halloween; several dances each spring semester leading up to state fair weekend; country music festivals throughout May/June; world chess championships held every few years; antique car show on Saturday mornings around Memorial Day time; Methodist services on Sundays evening following school dismissal; fundraisers for various charities throughout November/December/January etc.; a pumpkin patch open from Thanksgiving through New Year's Eve

Woodhaven is a small city in the U.S. state of Michigan, located on the shores of Lake Huron. The population was 5,853 at the 2010 census. The name is derived from Dutch word 'Woud' meaning "wood" and 'haven' meaning "place for landing." Woodhaven was founded by fur traders in 1796 as a trading post on the Rouge River, about 12 miles (19 km) east of present-day Detroit. It became an incorporated village in 1848 and a city in 1875. The City of Woodhaven today grew out of several smaller villages that merged to form it around 1800-1800 AD when traders began arriving to trade with the region around what is now Detroit. One such trader was Jacob Van Dyke whose family had operated a ferry service from Holland's Utica Landing downriver to where they built their first home at what is now downtown Woodhaven on Mayflower Road between Gratiot Avenue and Woodward Avenue - this location would remain until 1906 when it was renamed Van Dyke Park after him). In 1796, fur traders John Stroud and James Watt established themselves at what is now known as Singing Hills along the Rouge River - about 12 miles (19 km) east of present-day Detroit. By 1800, there were over 50 fur traders operating out of this area including some monks who ran a monastery on nearby Mount Carmel - while other merchants set up shop along the Mackinac Bridge across Lake Huron shipping goods like flour, lumber, salt pork and other commodities all way down to deepwater ports near Buffalo or Montreal during years when those Ports were open for trade! Some interesting facts about early Woodhaven include that it served as both an agricultural center for surrounding farmers before becoming one of America's most bustling cities thanks to its rich manufacturing history dating back to at least 1825 when local entrepreneurs started making brass knuckles and buttons using foundry products from their factories; that by 1875, it boasted 1,500+ residents within its walls – more than any other American city; that almost 500% increase in its population occurred during World War I due largely to military recruitment exercises conducted here by various stateside industries; and finally that following World War II which saw significant growth throughout much of America due in part to newly created suburban communities popping up everywhere – Woodhaven experienced yet another large increase in population with 715 people living there by 1990!
Woodhaven was founded in 1836 by John L. Wood and his wife, Catharine. The town was named after a small wood near the village of West Haven. The first post office was established in 1837, and the first store opened in 1840. In 1849, the village of West Haven merged with Woodhaven. In 1865, the United States Postal Service moved to what is now known as east side of town on State Street from Lansing because of population growth there.
