The Traverse City Air Force Base is home to the Michigan Air National Guard's 264th Fighter Wing, which flies the F-16 Fighting Falcon. The wing has been activated five times in its history, most recently on Dec. 12, 2006 when it was reactivated at Traverse City AFB as part of Operation Neptune's Spear. The wing has also been mobilized for exercises such as Joint Warrior and Global Strike--both of which took place at RAF Mildenhall in England. The 264th FW first flew operations out of Duxford AFB, England in 1948. In 1961, the unit moved to Clinton AFB and served as a fighter training base for the USAF until beingactivated on Jan 1, 1991 following the Gulf War. In 2005 the wing relocated from Clinton AFB to AFB Traverse City and became an operational flying force with 16 F-16C/D aircraft. On Dec 12 2006, after months of preparatory work by NATO nations and international partners including Canada and Europe (among others), Operation Neptune's Spear began when 14 CF-18 Hornets from Elmendorf AB in Alaska arrived at AFB Traverse City under General Rick Hultman's command; they were joined by 10 additional CF-18s from Fairchild AFB Spokane later that daybringing the total number of planes assigned to MSBG NG over 20%. That same day saw two more deployments: one arriving with 11 planes while another brought in 13 planes--making it one squadron per day active! The deployment was part ofOperation Red Flag 2007 which took place across North America from May 3rd - July 9th 2007...the largest air exercise ever staged by US military forces! It was also conducted using exotic tactics such as "Gulf Shield" exercises which simulated an Iranian attack against coalition targets near Kuwait City; results were impressive with no losses reported! This type of operation is now routine for ourFighter Wings during their annualGuard Fleets endurance flyovers! On November 5th 2017 marks 10 years since we opened up shop at our new home.........we are excited about all this new technology that we have access too.......and can't wait to see what comes next

Traverse City, Michigan (commonly called "The City of Traverse City") is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the county seat of Mackinac County. The population was 44,057 at the 2010 census, making it the eighth-largest city in Michigan and one of its seven counties. It is home to the University of Michigan and several major industrial facilities. The first Europeans to visit what is now Traverse City were French explorers on their way from Detroit to Lake Superior in 1696. In 1797, Samuel de Champlain charted present-day Traverse City as part of his exploration of Northwestern North America. The explorer Daniel DeForest explored this area in 1800 while he was working for General Anthony Wayne's army during the American Revolution. John Pemberton founded Pemberton Township near present day downtown Traverse City in 1827 after acquiring land east of present day US 41 and south of Saginaw Bayou. In 1831, following a request from local politician James Atherton, then governor Winfield Scott appointed Jethro Gibbs as the first municipal judge for Mackinac County. On July 1, 1833, First Presbyterian Church cornerstone was laid by President Franklin D. Roosevelt at what is now Third Avenue and State Street just north of downtown Traverse City; this marks the beginning of what would become known as "The Great Thirteen Days" period when New Deal programs were implemented throughout much northern United States during that time frame On October 10, 1835 – three days after General Jackson's final victory over Mexico at Battle Creek – Americans landed on Ionia River with troops under Colonel George Armstrong Richardson to capture Michilimackinac Island which they did on October 12th A year later on November 7th Ali Baba & Forty Thieves opened up an casino at Saginaw Bayou which led to more development around town including a hotel/casino complex known as The Sands at Saginaw that opened in 1937 It wasn't until 1951 whenGM became interested in developing a new manufacturing center outside Detroit so they announced plans for a plant called Grosse Pointe le Rouge adjacent to where Orion Motor Car Company had been located since 1902
The United States Air Force (USAF) has been providing aerial assistance to the American people for over 60 years. The USAF is a member of the United Nations, and its mission is to provide air support for global peace and security. In Fiscal Year 2017, the USAF budget was $123 billion. This amount includes spending on military operations, research and development, procurement, training and education. During World War II, the USAF was instrumental in helping America win the war against Japan. After the war, it became clear that airpower would be key in ensuring US supremacy in the world stage. The USAF was created in 1947 as a result of this understanding. The USAF has since become one of America’s most powerful militaries and has played a significant role in many conflicts around the world. One of the most famous instances where an USAF aircraft assisted with Operation Desert Storm was when General Colin Powell delivered his speech at Cairo University on October 14th 1991 during which he explained America’s linkages with other countries throughout history. This event helped bring international attention to America’s involvement in Iraq and led to Iraq becoming an ally of America once again. Since 9/11/2001, there have been numerous incidents where USAAF assets have acted in support of American interests both domestically and abroad while also demonstrating our commitment to freedom, democracy and human rights worldwide. These events have included Operation Neptune Spear (which targeted Osama bin Laden), Operation Enduring Freedom (a campaign against Taliban militants),Operation Noble Eagle (the largest peacetime deployment by any Nato country), Typhoon Soulik (a typhoon that swept through China) as well as countless others across multiple continents including Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya – all while conducting airstrikes without incident or civilian casualties.

Traverse City, Michigan is a city in Midwestern United States. The population was 513 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Traverse County. The name "Traverse City" was derived from the fact that it lies on the Ingham River and its mouth is about two miles wide at its widest point. The first people to live in what is now Traverse City were farmers who traveled upriver to trade goods with other cultures. There were no permanent settlements until 1836 when a group of traders, led by John Butterfield, founded the town on land they had bought from the Huron tribe. Butterfield named his new community after Frederick Douglass, an American abolitionist and slaveholder who had been living in Canada since 1838. The first school in Traverse City was built in 1840 by Rev. George Whitcomb and teaching Methodism until 1846 when a log cabin was donated by Jacob Howland for use as a schoolhouse. A smallpox epidemic caused most of the buildings to collapse during construction but one still stands today, used as offices for Lansing-based Kresge Corporation until 1984. The only brick building on Main Street remaining from that time is State Capitol Annex which served as home to state government for over fifty years before being moved to its current site across MLK Boulevard from Central Library in 1998 following voter approval of plans to demolish much of downtown core during a period of budget cuts precipitated by recessionary conditions throughout all levels of government including education). In 1851, William Haines set up business providing freight transportation between Detroit and Chicago via the Ingham River between what are now downtown Traverse City and Mackinac Island Ferry Landing south of town. This early trucking industry played an important role in developing economic development in what would become known as "the heartland". By 1860, there were over 100 businesses operating out of downtown Traverse City with many becoming successful such as Jardine Brothers Shipbuilding Company (founded 1865), Wm Fenton & Sons flour mills (1868), Davenport Iron Works (1873), Bechtel Power Engineering Company (1875) and Armour Electric Steelworks (1905). While some smaller businesses continued operations through various changesover into subsequent decades including Alcoa Wire Services Inc., National Can Co., Guggenheim Lumber Co., Interlocking Insulation Corp., Gold Fields Mines Incorporated, Daily Mirror Printing House etcetera these larger outfits generally became associated with their more wellknown competitors or became part of larger metropolitan areas where competition made them vulnerable to takeover or sale even if they remained operational longer than their less powerful rivals within their own boundaries A major factor responsible for increasing growth rates and prosperity for Downtown Traverse City through multiple generations can be traced back to entrepreneur James Sennett's decision in 1909 not only openhearth copper smelting operations at nearby Griggs Copper Mine but also establish a processing plant adjacent thereto capable of producing both finished products and ingots usable immediately without conversion work required prior to shipment direct onto railroad cars carrying finished product directly into markets around North America Sennett's decision marked an turning point not only because it allowed him control over key aspects - including supply chain management - necessary for success but also because it contributed significantly towards visionaries such as Max Westheimer Sr., president/CEO Union Carbide Corporation USA; Franklin D Roosevelt; Harry Truman; Jay Cooke; David Rockefeller Jr.; Cyrus Vance etcetera establishingAmerican industrial leadership preeminently within his generation traversingcity history
