Battle Creek is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the county seat of Washtenaw County. The population was 67,521 at the 2010 census, making it the third-largest city in Michigan. It is east of Lansing, south of Detroit, and west of Flint. The first Battle Creek settlement was founded by David Silliman on land grant from the Potomac Company in 1795. The town was laid out in 1824 by George Stephenson as an agricultural center with a depot for goods arriving by wagon road from Ontario and other parts of Canada. The town became a coalmining community after production began to increase along US 43 in 1859; this led to its nickname "The Birthplace of Coal Mining". In 1875, Battle Creek became part of Michigans first congressional district; it remained so until it was abolished within Michigan's newly created Thirteenth Congressional District in 1911 when Republican incumbent James Buchanan won reelection without running against any incumbent Democrat (the first time such an election had been held). When Battle Creek incorporated as a municipality on November 3, 1903, most residents were still working at mines or processing coal products localizing their economic activity around these two industries which were then important enough to be considered separate entities: Battle Creek Manufacturing Corporation (later known as Alcoa) and First National Coal mine Limited (later part owner General Electric). However over time these industries gradually merged into one larger company as equipment improved and prices for coal dropped: Alcoa bought Cannon Mills Corporation in 1907 for $2 million; GE purchased controlling interest in First National Coal Mine Limited in 1912 for $5 million; all three companies merged into Ameren Corporation effective January 1st 1914 to form what is now known as Alcoa Incorporated. Battalion Barracks Public School opened on October 26th 1915 during World War I with both boys and girls enrolling together under one roof; this building served until 1978 when it closed due to budget cuts caused by recessionary times throughout North America starting with stagflation following World War II . In 1951 Eastman Kodak opened its world's first photography factory here also changing how photography would be conceived across cultures through film development forever influencing industry today. Located just off the main drag between downtown Battle creek and east side industrial park you'll find industrial buildings converted into apartments/condos/hotels etc... much like today's central business district however back then there wasn't anything near that many businesses coming up or continuing onto State Road 313 which today is known locally simply as 'Old Main Street'

Battle Creek is a city in Delta County, Michigan, United States. The population was 7,521 at the 2010 census. Battle Creek is the county seat of Delta County. The city was founded in 1837 by General Hull and Colonel John S. Potts as a stopping-off point on the Great Lakes for freight wagons and passenger steamboats traveling between Detroit and other points on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The first post office was opened in 1838, and Battle Creek took its name from the battle fought near Fort Dearborn (now known as Downtown Detroit) on October 10, 1847. The city's first school was built in 1840 and became an important element of town life. In 1853, Battle Creek became part of Washtenaw County when it was created from parts of Wayne and Oakland counties. In 1865, Battle Creek became a state capital under the same system that gave new life to Lansing as the state's capital after Congress passed legislation providing for it. As part of this process, Battle Creek lost some much-needed residents to Lansing but gained other talented individuals who would help make Lansing one of America's leading cities during its early years. In 1888–89, Battle Creek hosted both the Republican National Convention (the first time they had ever been held in America) and also contributed $10,000 to help finance Lincoln's election campaign; both events were highly publicized within America due to their importance at that time. On November 1st 1920 Washington Daugherty announced he would not seek re-election as President because he felt too ill to continue running for office should he win another term without rest or recuperation time away from his home country which he could never do while serving simultaneously as President of the United States; however his Vice Presidential running mate Calvin Coolidge won handily with over 96% of the vote cast against Daugherty’s only hope being James Cox who finished third with only 9%. This event marked one step towards limiting presidential terms down to two terms instead than four given that then-President Woodrow Wilson wanted more say over domestic policies affecting US citizens living abroad (he did eventually propose expanding this rule). Based off its rich history & culture - including many famous people like Woodrow Wilson -Detroit has always been known for being "The City On The Lake".
