The history of the U.S. Army gift shop began in Hagerstown, Maryland, in 1892. The shop was founded by Captain Edwin A. Hallowell and his wife, Mrs. C.H. Price, who ran it together for six years until they sold it to Capt. John Prentice in 1902. In 1912, the Shop moved to its present location on Market Street in Hagerstown and continued to operate until 1954 when it closed its doors once again due to economic problems. Since 1954, the Shop has been open as a museum dedicated to the history of Army gifts and sales throughout Maryland including Hagerstown and Prince George’s County. Our collection includes over 2,000 items from military service branches across the United States as well as many rare pieces from overseas deployments such as World War II Germany and Korea! We also have an extensive display ofArmy memorabilia including uniforms, equipment and books! Our Museum is open daily 9am-4pm except Sunday when we are closed for worship services at 4pm! Admission is free with a valid Maryland State ID!
