The Coast Guard of the United States first arrived in Sulphur, Louisiana on October 1, 1898. The Sulphur Coast Guard was organized as a part of the Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management on January 25, 2002. The Sulphur Coast Guard is headquartered at the Sulphur Municipal Building. Since its establishment in 1898, the Coast Guard has been responsible for Protecting Our Nation's Coastal Communities through law enforcement and security operations; providing humanitarian assistance to those affected by natural disasters; and engaging in educational opportunities for coastal residents. In FY 2018, the Coast Guard responded to 338 incidents along America's coasts- an increase of 5% over FY 2017. This reflects increased activity throughout our country due to both weather conditions and global events such as Hurricanes Florence and Michael. In addition to homeland defense missions, we also support Search And Rescue efforts during hurricanes or other emergencies; provide environmental stewardship services for local communities; respond to requests from Federal agencies for maritime search and rescue capabilities; provide public education about proper boating behavior when near shorelines; participate in joint exercises with other Federal agencies such as Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA); conduct annual inspections of all commercial vessels entering U.S waters pursuant to section 801(a)(1) of title 7 United States Code.;and more...

The Coast Guard has been giving gifts to people for centuries. In 1892, the first Coast Guard Museum was established in New York City. In 1923, the Coast Guard Auxiliary was created and began giving presents to people on behalf of the Coast Guard. The Auxiliary continued to give presents until 1976 when it became a separate organization called the National Coast Guard Foundation.
Sulphur is a small town in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,955 at the 2010 census. Sulphur is part of the New Orleans metropolitan area. The first people to live in what is now Sulphur were Native Americans who hunted and gathered the local wild onions and other vegetables. The area was settled by members of the French Colony of La Salle in 1718 after they discovered oil drilling operations being conducted on nearby Baton Rouge Island by British sailors. In 1814, a group of American soldiers under General Andrew Jackson set out from Mobile, Alabama, for an attack on Baton Rouge Island but were forced to turn back because of bad weather conditions near Sulphur. The discovery of oil rigs off Louisiana's coast led to increased traffic and development around Sulphur; some stores and businesses opened up as early as 1856. In 1886, Sulpherity School was established in rural Jefferson Parish with four classrooms and fifty-six students; it served grades one through twelve until 1940 when it closed due to World War II military needs at nearby Alexandria Naval Air Station (now Joint Base New Orleans-Lafayette). A new school was built in 1957 on Tulane Street between Patton Boulevard and Maple Avenue; it served grades PreK-8 until 1980 when it also closed due to budget cuts. It reopened as Our Lady Of Charity Elementary School after Katrina hit that year; it has been open every day since then except Mondays since 2005 due to Hurricane Rita damage done primarily during the storm's passage through town center late that night. A post office operated at Sulpherity from 1836 until 1970 when its location changed to provide better access for mail delivery into adjoining parishes; today there are no postal services here anymore apart from occasional dropship shipments of stamps which are picked up at a nearby UPS store located opposite Walmart across the street from Catholic Children’s Ministry which provides dropoffs for packages delivered here during mass service hours Monday thru Friday morning 9am-3pm
Sulpur was a small community in Claiborne Parish, Louisiana, United States. It is now part of the Baton Rouge metropolitan area. The community was founded on October 25, 1892 by Abram and Cora Sulphur. It was named for Abram Sulphur, an entrepreneur who had a store in New Orleans. The community had one grocery until 1907 and two churches until 1912.
