Radcliff, Kentucky is a town in Marshall County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,856 at the 2010 census. The Radcliff post office has been in operation since 1829. The original settlement at the present site of Radcliff was known as Post Office Station (now called Old-Fashioned Store). A store and house were built there in 1834 by John Withers. In 1839, Elijah Hicks built a sawmill on the creek that forms the border of Radcliff and Westmoreland counties. In 1861, George Hines platted what is now Radcliff and laid out streets to it about three miles east of where it now stands. By 1870, when the railway arrived in that area and began serving that community extensively, most of the land around today's downtown had been developed as farms or hamlets. In 1912–13 and 1914–15, Andrew Johnson attended a meeting held by Mayor J.D. Haynie in order to select sites for new high schools in Marshall County among those proposed for Louisville School District No. 2; however no action result from his visit other than to recommend a new high school be built at what is now Union Hill School District No. 1 (later Jefferson County High School) instead which would serve both districts together under one roofing until 1965 when individual school district boundaries were changed again resulting in Radcliff becoming its own separate school district with radcliffe High School serving as its only campus until 2011 when Jefferson County High School merged into Louisville Metro Police Academy which then closed down all dual enrollment classes with Radcliffe HS continuing as an all-day program providing evening classes while also offering morning tutorials throughout much of day). The first post office opened at "Post Office Station" on October 17th 1830 by John Withers with David Jones named receiver/postmaster It served unincorporated areas surrounding present day Marshallsville until May 6th 1836 when it became part of Addison Parish under jurisdiction ofMarshall Co., KY On November 3rd 1840 postmastership moved fromDavid Jones to Elijah Hicks who renamed it "Old-Fashioned Store" after his father who ran an old flour mill near youngstown Ohio According to historical records Elijah Hicks died on March 8th 1850 . It continued posting mail until October 14th 1852 when mail stopped being delivered becauseof deprecated technology caused by overspending during war years . That same year Postmaster Samuel Rankin took over responsibility from Elijah Hicks and continued this service until 1865under orders from MajGen Richard Taylor commanding Eastern Kentucky Militia troops alongwith James Covington Jr who became First Class Clerk After Rankin resigned he was succeeded by James Laughlin on December 12th 1865and service ended effective January 16TH 1866 due to increased postage rates caused by railroads monopoly

It grew rapidly, and by 1827 it had a school, church, doctor, post office, and more than 100 residents. By the early 1800s, Radcliff had become an important cotton plantation center. In 1865, the Union army sacked the town during the American Civil War.
