The Radcliff Air Force Base is home to the Kentucky Air National Guard's 193rd Fighter Wing. The wing has a rich air force history that dates back to World War I. The wing was activated on October 17, 1917 and operated under the name of the 121st Aero Squadron. It served in France during World War I as part of the 128th Wing and then moved to England in 1918 before being disbanded on September 15, 1919. In 1940, the 191st Fighter Group was organized at Radcliff AFB and activated on December 3, 1939. Itsembled two fighter squadrons (the 191st FS and the 192nd FS) together with a bomber squadron (the 927th Bomb Group). The group flew bombing missions over Germany during World War II. In addition, it flew ground-attack missions against Japanese targets in Southeast Asia. The group was redesignated as an air army unit on April 25, 1942 when it became one of three wings associated with RAF Europe under Eighth Air Force control. The 194th Fighter Squadron which arrived at Radcliff AFB from Whitby Airport England in early 1944 was attached to 8th AF and initially participated in combatochemist operations along US/UK supply routes over Normandy beachhead area prior to its activation for combat mission against Nazi forces in late 1944 after Allied victory over Germany had been secured. On 10 Dec 44 Grp 190s attacked Bremen docks; this led directly to German capitulation effective 12 Dec 44 On Jul 45 Grp 190s attacked Sarmiento airfield Italy; this led directly to Italian surrender effective 8 Aug 45 In Sep 46 concurrent attacks by XXIV Corps’ 303d FG resulted in loss of 5 P-38L aircraft; all 5 were shot down near Orvieto – probably due Francesco Graziani’s attempt fly low over target & regain lost altitude before interception could be made

However, by 2000, its population had increased back to 602 due to an influx of people moving there because of new job opportunities available in surrounding counties. The economy has been dominated by agriculture since its foundation; however, recent efforts have brought some manufacturing and light industrial development within reach.

Radcliff was a small town in Jefferson County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Louisville metropolitan area. Radcliff is named after David Clifford Radcliffe, an early settler in the area. The first land around present-day Radcliff was surveyed by George Rogers Clark in 1802 and purchased from the Cherokee Indians. In 1804, Daniel Boone and his party passed through this area on their way to prospect for coal in eastern Kentucky. They were followed by James Wilkinson who landed here on July 20, 1805. Wilkinson's claim included much of present-day Radcliff Township and portions of what are now Greenfield Township and Overton Township. A store and post office were built here in 1807 by Captain John Pritchard as part of a wagon road from Bardstown to Louisville via Georgetown (now Fort Campbell). In 1830, two brothers named Thomas and Samuel McIntosh bought 800 acres (30 ha) of land near the current town center from Colonel John Todd for $4 per acre ($40 per km²). McIntosh operated a ferry service across White River until 1840 when he sold it to General David Dixon for $2 per day (equivalent to $52/month at current prices). Dixon also founded Dixon College which became one of the largest coeducational colleges in America.
