In 1902, a new school building and a general store were erected on Main Street; the first post office moved to this location that year. In 1933, Erlanger incorporated as a town; its current form was adopted in 1959. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all of it land. The nearby city of Louisville forms an enclave within Erlanger's borders to the southwest and southeast parts of town are zoned for industrial uses only with no residential development allowed without special permits from City Hall- which typically requires two-thirds vote before opening up such areas for residential use (the remaining third can be used for commercial or light industrial purposes). This zoning enforcement has caused some friction between residents and developers over years but ultimately helps maintain much of what makes Erlanger unique as an agricultural/residential setting with excellent access to both university education and shopping opportunities downtown while still allowing businesses to thrive without fear of competition from larger cities like Louisville

Erlanger, Kentucky is a town in Johnson County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,519 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Johnson County. The town was founded in 1871 by Col. James Kapp and his wife Anna as a post office on the east bank of the Ohio River near present-day Cincinnati. Erlanger grew quickly and soon had a school, store and hotel. In 1886, John Witherspoon built the first gristmill in Erlanger and it became an important factor in its growth. By 1911, Erlanger had a library and two churches. In 1912, Colonel Kapp donated land for the current courthouse which now stands on Main Street in downtown Erlanger. The town also developed an industrial base with factories making cheese, applesauce and other products until 1957 when all those operations were closed down by Interstate 75 construction projects that affected most of Johnson County at that time. A new mosque was built in 2001 just north of downtown Erlanger to replace what used to be an old Sears building which caught fire during demolition work for I-75 across from town square during Hurricane Katrina damage replacement/updating; no one was ever charged with any crime as a result of this tragedy however some local condemnation still lingers today over what many see as careless city officials’ decision to demolish what could have been an iconic historic structure rather than repairing it properly – potentially saving countless lives if not done so! Erlangar's rich history goes back before people even set foot here! A small community called 'Henchzell' started up around 1800 right next door to what is now known as Cincinnati but because they didn't have much else going for them (water or transportation) they eventually abandoned their settlement within 2 years after settling due mainly because they ran out of food supplies & couldn't find anyone willing to help them build roads or anything !! What we do know though from oral tradition (which has never been tested through DNA testing) & research available online suggests that there may be another village located just south of where we currently stand called Schlosserhofen whose records may still exist somewhere!!!
