The Kansas City Air National Guard (KC ANG) is one of the United States air forces' subordinate commands. It was founded on November 15, 1941 as the 1st Bombardment Wing, cadet unit of the Missouri Air National Guard. The wing became a bomber squadron on September 17th, 1942 and later activated two fighter wings in April 1943 - the 4th Fighter Wing and the 5th Fighter Wing. On July 18, 1948 KC ANG became an independent combatant command with its own Headquarters and Service Command (HQ & SC). The KC ANG's first Commander-in-Chief was Major General Leroy E. Lovett Jr. On July 2nd, 1949 HQ & SC were reassigned to HeadquartersAir Force Reserve Command under Lieutenant General Curtis LeMay who had assumed command from Major General Lovett. Inactivated on August 16th 1953 as part of the large organization changes associated with Defense Reorganization Act of 1952 which eliminated all USAF commands other than Tactical Air Command and Northeast Attack Forces while retaining most USAF assets assigned to Tactical Air Command including FCB-2 bombers which had been transferred to KC ANG from bombardment squadrons in Strategic Air Forces Europe (SAAF). When activated again on October 1st 1953 under then LtGen James Forrest Grosvenor headquartered at McConnell AFB he changed the name back to KCANG effective October 3rd although elements of HQ & SC continued to operate out of Langley AFB where they had been since 1947 when HQ & SC relocated from Topeka KS after that city's acquisition by KCANG following World War II annexation by Japan. On March 1st 1960 KCANG gained its current military designation - Republic Of Korea Army Eighth Infantry Division (7 ID). This change followed a similar change for Taiwan which also received its own air force status that same year when it became an autonomous republic within China separate from both mainland China and Taiwan. In 1963 Republic Of Korea Army Seventh Infantry Division relinquished their United States citizenship so that they could maintain their unique lineage and insignia within South Korean military structure however this did not mean they no longer flew United States operational aircraft such as F-86 Sabre jets however those operations were now conducted out of Chuncheon AB in South Korea while still flying North American EA-6D Prowlers over Japanese airspace using Chinese markings flight crews only making these flights below high altitude using instrument methods only during daylight hours when friendly Japan was visible above clouds creating an "hiding zone" allowing these flyovers without being detected by Japanese radar systems thereby avoiding any potential conflict or accidental shootouts between Taiwanese airforce pilots flying alongside Korean airforce personnel during cross border patrols

The United States Air Force (USAF) has a rich history of giving gifts and awarding medals for excellence in service. The USAF's History Office is responsible for preserving and promotingAir Force culture and history. The USAF gave its first gift to the world on July 6, 1947 when it donated two B-29 Superfortresses to the United Nations as part of the International Defense Aid Program. The planes were used by the USAF in support of Allied air forces during World War II. On July 5, 1949, the USAF donated four C-47 Skytrain airplanes to Egypt as part of the Cairo Agreement between America and Great Britain. These planes were used by Egypt's Air force in support of British military operations in North Africa during World War II. In 1963, Congress approved a bill authorizing donation of an additional 350 Boeing 707 aircraft to be allocated to the USAF for use as cargo transports. These planes were redesignated KC-135 Stratotankers and became known as "The Twin Towers". On October 3, 1966, President Lyndon Johnson presented General Curtis LeMay with a silver plate inscribed with the words "For Excellence." This was followed by five more gifts from President Johnson totaling $2 million over eight years. On October 8th, 1969, General George Custer was given a gold plate inscribed with the words "For Merit." This was followed by six more gifts totaling $5 million over eight years. In 1977, General John Jumper was given a gold badge that read "For Valor." This was followed by seven more gifts totalling $10 million over eight years. In 1988, Major General William Jumper received his second gold badge which read "For Service Above All Else."This marked an increase in donations from members of Congress totaling $15 million overeight years! These donations helped support Operation Desert Storm which ended on December 14th1991 with Iraq's capitulation! The total value of these Gifts amounted to well over $130 million! On January 25th1994the US Air Force bestowed its third golden Badge - this time it was awarded To General Norman Schwarzkopf For His valorous conduct During The Gulf War !This act commemoratesGeneral Schwarzkopf's role leading American forces during Operation Iraqi Freedom which began on February 17th 1991 and ended on April 7th1991
