The Iowa National Guard is a branch of the United States Armed Forces and is responsible for providing guard and security services to the state of Iowa. The National Guard was established on December 12, 1903 as an agency of the Department of War. On July 1, 1935, it was redesignated as the Iowa National Guard under the Federal Defense Act. The current name was given to it by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on November 15, 1938. The Iowa National Guard has a rich history in Mason City, IA. It first served as part of local militia groups before becoming an infantry regiment in 1916 and then a artillery regiment in 1934. After World War II, the regiment became a rifle battalion and later an armored battalion before becoming an infantry brigade in 1973 and again an armored brigade in 1992. They served throughout the Civil War under various flags until 1865 when they became a part of the Union Army. The Guardsmen were disbanded in 1921 but have been reborn as a unit multiple times since then.
Mason City, Iowa is a city in Story County, Iowa, United States. The population was 6,611 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Story County. Mason City is home to the Iowa State University and its main campus as well as numerous small businesses and industries. Mason City has been inhabited by humans since pre-Columbian times. A post office was established in 1854, and remained in operation until it closed in 1969. The city was named for Samuel Masons who built a house here around 1840. Mason City became an incorporated town on May 1, 1868. The city's first mayor was Wm Hays Morton (1847-1925). In 1902 the Ames Manufacturing Company began production of Ford Model T automobiles here; this led to growth in the town which eventually included other manufacturing businesses such as meatpacking companies and breweries. The Ames Manufacturing Company ceased operations in 1978 but local residents continue to produce cars for export under the name "Ford of Mason City". Today there are over 50 auto dealerships within a radius of 10 miles of downtown Mason City including several that still operate from original buildings dating back to 1903! There are also several small colleges located within walking distance of downtown: Drake University (just north of downtown), Cedar Rapids Community College (near exit 184 on I-435), and Northern Iowa University (just south of downtown). One interesting fact about downtown MasonCity is that it has not changed much since 1903 when it consisted largely of smaller buildings surrounding a large park that served as both business district and social center for many years. today’s shopping mall located just east side off I-435 offers more variety with high end stores being replaced by budget brands but overall pedestrians can explore most everything inside without feeling overwhelmed or crowded

In 1906, Congress passed legislation authorizing agencies such as the Department of Defense (DOD) to award national guard medals and ribbons “for gallantry in action against any enemy within the United States or under its jurisdiction; for rendering aid and comfort during war time; or for any other meritorious conduct while serving in the uniformed services of this Government.” The NGM has continued to be awarded annually since then, making it one of the most common national guard medal recipients. Each year, thousands of servicemen and women receive this prestigious distinction across AMERICA! Mason City, Iowa is a small town in the Ozarks of central Missouri. The population was 6,028 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Springfield-Springfield, MO-IL Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first documented reference to Mason City and its current location can be traced back to 1799 when French explorers Jean Baptiste Chouteau and Pierre Charles L’Enfant traveled through this area on their way from St. Louis to Fort Gibson in Indian Territory (now Oklahoma). They noted that there were "masons" working on a large white temple near modern day downtown. A year later, Captain George Rogers Clark passed through this region while exploring southwest Missouri for the United States government. He built Fort Clark on the east side of Arkansas River where he had been informed by local chiefs that Masons built a grand temple thereabouts. This event served as an early indication of American involvement in this area and also contributed to increased trade between these regions. It wasn’t until 1836 that Mason City was designated as the territorial capital of Kansas under President James K. Polk after Kansas became a U.S., territorial, and then statehood entity following the admission of Kansas into Congress on April 12, 1838. In 1863, during Abraham Lincoln’s second term as president, Union general William Tecumseh Sherman destroyed most of Lawrence County west of Topeka so that eastern Kansas would become open territory under Ulysses S. Grant’s administration instead—a move likely motivated by fears thatKansas would break away if it weren’t treated as part of America . Once again, Mason City played an important role in both local history and post-war development due to its strategic location within easy reach for both federal officials and commercial traders alike . Mason City was founded in 1854 by John H. Mason and his brother, Amos. The city was named after George Washington Mason, a U.S. Senator from Virginia who helped found the United States Patent Office in 1793 and served as its first director. The brothers were also the founders of the Iowa State Normal School (now known as Drake University) in 1857. In 1865, Mason City became the capital of the newly created Dakota Territory when Minnesota split from Illinois.
