When the citizens of Cedar Falls founded their city in 1855, they knew that they needed a force to maintain order and protect the city. The first organized militia unit was created in 1860, and under the command of Capt. John Fenton, it fought against Native American raids. The Iowa National Guard was reactivated in 1911 as part of a state-wide reorganization of state militias. At its inception,Iowa National Guard units were equipped with rifles and shotguns only, but over time they were authorized to purchase handguns and other firearms. In 1915, the Iowa National Guard received its first tanks (the M1A1). By 1940, all Iowa National Guardsmen had access to radios and body armor. In World War II, the Iowa National Guard played an important role in both America's entry into war and the battles that followed. After the war ended, many Iowa Guardsmen served in various commands throughout the United States until their retirement in 1972. As part of its mission to provide peacekeeping services around the world since 1990, the Iowa National Guard has since conducted numerous missions including responses to natural disasters such as Katrina and Sandy; serve as a cadre for new police officers across America; offer support during major sporting events; conduct search and rescue operations; partner with local law enforcement agencies during emergencies; provide security at military base encampments; participate in homeland defense planning exercises; support agricultural activities through food procurement or crop disposal services or by providing training on animal husbandry or land management techniques

Cedar Falls, Iowa is a small town located in Cedar County, Iowa. The population was 1,871 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Cedar County and home to the Cedar Falls Municipal Airport. The first settlers in Cedar Falls were Methodist missionaries who arrived in 1847. The community was founded on the banks of the Des Moines River by David Salyer and his family. Salyer named it after a stand of cedars near his farmstead. In 1876, lumber baron John Drexel built a sawmill at Cedar Falls and stocked it with logs from his mills in neighboring Union Township. By 1890, Cedar Falls had become an important center for trade and commerce in eastern Iowa due to its location on the edge of what was then known as “the Great Sioux Nation” and its access to water resources that made it conducive to milling purposes. During World War I, Cedar Falls served as headquarters for United States forces stationed in northeastern Iowa (including parts of present-day Poland). After the war ended, many American soldiers came east to live and work in what would become known as “the rebirth years” of downtown Cedar Falls – beginning with oil refineries being established there during the 1920s and continuing through post-war development which included construction of two hospitals (one operated by Methodist Episcopal Church) as well as several high school districts. In 1991, when all but four rural counties were combined into one larger region within Iowa's Department of Commerce called the Great Lakes Area Council (GLAC), Cedar Rapids became one of its component cities along with Dubuque, IA; Rockford IL; Wausau WI; Menominee WI; Moline IL;and Waterloo IL among others This aggressive growth pushed local businesses out into surrounding townships where they competed against each other for available jobs market share while also eroding village cores characterizing those communities as places where people knew their neighbors and shared common interests such as fishing or farming. This process began decades earlier when small farmers banded together to form leagues or associations to keep control over their lands while also developing cooperative methods for marketing goods and services such as mutual support groups through collective bargaining

Some even returned home after duty abroad, founding patriotic organizations such as The Veterans Memorial Fund or serving as instructors at local colleges. Today, there are over 200 member organizations across all 50 states who contribute time and money to support their countryman in uniform!

Cedar Falls, Iowa is a small town located in Cedar County, Iowa. The population was 581 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat for Cedar County and is part of the Des Moines Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in Cedar Falls were Mr. and Mrs. John Withers who arrived in 1836 from Ohio. The town was platted on July 2, 1837 by commissioners James Hickey and David Wells. The first store opened in what is now the Old State House (now the Iowan Museum). A post office was established at Cedar Falls on October 13, 1838 by Jno. Burtelius with the name of Vinton until it was renamed Cedar Rapids on May 24, 1840 by Chas Davenport due to objections from local residents about confusion with Vinton in Kentucky which had just been acquired by that state as part of a land grant from President James Kappenberger. In 1847 Fenton Matson built a gristmill on Brush Creek which became one of the early mills in this area; it continued to be operated until 1907 when it closed down due to lack of customers during hard times caused by drought and other factors. In 1906 businessman Eli Myrick erected a large frame building (later known as Myrick's Drug Store) across from where current City Hall sits; this building still stands today and serves as an important local landmark. On January 1, 1941, during World War II, General George Smedley surrendered at Camp Dodge after learning that he would not be captured alive like his comrades then-captured Japanese general Shigeru Miyamoto did weeks earlier at Anzio beachhead south of Rome Italy despite offers to do so from Ulysses S Grant and Franklin D Roosevelt; instead he received a life sentence plus 10 years imprisonment followed by death when Japan finally capitulated unconditionally two months later without ever delivering Smedley into their hands alive - thus becoming one of history's greatest "prisoners-of-war" along with such luminaries as Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin
