The Boone Coffee Company was founded in 1892 by John and Anna Ford. The company grew rapidly, quickly becoming one of the most successful coffee firms in Iowa. In 1924, the company merged with the neighboring Hennepin Coffee Company. In 2000, the Boone Coffee Company announced it would close its doors for good citing "the continuing volatility of commodity prices and competition from international beverage companies." However, some employees decided to keep the business open as a small-scale roastery/café until the end of time. Today, there are still a few remaining employees at the company who continue to produce artisan coffee under their own name.

Boone, Iowa is a small town in the northwest corner of the state of Iowa. It was founded in 1858 by Col. James A. Boone as a post office and trading center for the Sac and Fox Nation. The town became an agricultural processing center during the early years of this century, based on its location at the intersection of two major railroads. In 1902, Boone was renamed to honor General George Washington Boone, commander of Ulysses S. Grant's army in the Indian Wars. During World War II, Boone played an important role in supplying munitions to both sides of the conflict. The population reached 6,000 by 1951, but decline during subsequent decades due to factors such as mass marketing by local merchants and a lack of job opportunities in agriculture after World War II ended. In recent years, however,boone has seen increasing development as a bedroom community for Des Moines metropolitan area residents. The history of Boone begins with Colonel James A. Boone who arrived here from Kentucky in 1858 to open up land for settlement northeast of present day Des Moines he named after himself – “Boone’s Purchase” or simply “Boone Land” according to one account). He started out farming modestly with about 10 acres until he had enough land to build his own cabin and began trading goods with other tribes along his route providing them with food resources like horses, cattle and corn which they could then sell back home or barter for other items such as guns or whiskey (which he also traded). This trade led him down what is now First Street nearpresent-day Middleton Avenue where he met Major John Muhlenberg who was traveling through Sioux City on his way northward into Canada on what would be known as The Great Famine Expedition (1847-48) when many Dakota people died from thirst while trying cross country without any water supplies available so it is still considered one of America's largest famine events ever! Colonel Boone soon realized that this area had potential as a new settlement so he began building houses here including The Old Fort which still stands today within easy walking distance todayof most everything you'd need including a grocery store/ laundry facilities/ hospital etc., all while continuing his Trading Post business - selling goods not just east but west too thanks to good connections made through various leaders at that time! Today we can see evidence lining First Street from present day University Ave southward all the way across Cedar Rapids Rd towards County Line Rd - this part being called Heritage Hill because back then there were no streetlights so you hadto walk partway around Cemetery Hill before coming home at night! Needless to say things got busy pretty quickly!) In 1863 Captain Nathan Bedford Forrest fought against Union forces under General Ulysses S Grant near what is now Rural Road 4100 NNE & Boones Ferry Rd inside present day Polk County just outside Fairfield since Boones Ferry Bridge fell down & washed away some days later :( Ultimately Union forces prevailed & Forrest was captured but managed to escape... kinda like our current president!) After Colonel Boone's death in 1865 some additional settlers arrive including Ishmael Smith who married into one of colonel boones daughters & family continues living here till date.) By 1870 there were over 100 families living here according to one report) By 1901 only 15 families lived here according to another report) However things really took off here starting around 1902 when General George Washington Boone came thru town renamed it after him and started doing alot OF THE TRADE THAT MAKES THIS AREA SO SPECIAL TODAY!). Eventually main streets were changed too & everything became more centralized becoming what we know today! Main Streets: 1st St NE; 2nd St NE; 3rd St NE; 4th St SE; 5th St SE; 6th St SE; 7th Dr SW; 8th Dr SW
